Thanks for volunteering 1m. I hope it doesn’t set you back too much.NBA 1 pick makes $8.5MM
NBA pick 8 makes 4MM
NBA pick 13 makes 3 MM
NBA pick 22 makes 2MM
I’d say we can put 1MM on the table we’d have a chance as he could potentially make up any money he lost by improving his stock a few spots which I think would certainly be possible.
It isn’t really as simple as “match or exceed whatever he’d make in the NBA and he’ll stay” though. There are other factors to consider.NBA 1 pick makes $8.5MM

Keon Johnson was drafted by the Knicks at 21, traded immediately to Clippers, played some for them and was traded to the Blazers. He's making $2.5+ million a year, team option kicks in year 3.I only sort of follow one NBA team the Miami Heat and living in Lakewood Ranch, FL (used to live in South FL when LeBron played for the Heat) I don't get to see many of their games. I can't even remember the NBA teams the two 5 Stars from last year got drafted to last year. I do seem to recall they were later in the 1st round(neither was a lottery pick). Anyone remember what number in draft for each player? How much was their first contract? I seem to recall one of them was traded. If you are a late 1st round player you're probably not going to get much PT.
No offense, but neither of your points really refute anything I said. I don’t think “legacy” is something kids really care much about when it comes to college athletics. You say “no one really cares about the NBA” but I don’t think that is accurate. Plenty of people care about the NBA. Clearly these student athletes do as that is why they play the game in the first place.
Sure, he could improve his draft stock by returning, but then again it doesn’t refute my point. He loses a year out of college if he does return. That’s one year further away from that 2nd contract and if he believes he can develop quicker with basketball as his full-time job, returning won’t make much sense.
Again, I obviously very very much want Chandler to return. I just don’t see a path for that to happen that seems very likely at this point.

- You still have to go to class if you stay.
- Your timeline to your second NBA contract is delayed by a year if you stay.
- You can actually hurt your draft stock by staying. No guarantee it’ll improve.
- No college coach or team will ever be able to prepare you for the NBA as effectively as practicing on an actual NBA team will.

Ja was completely unknown out of high school. That’s why he was at Murray State to begin with, and why it took him 2 years to blow up.Ja exploded as a sophomore at Murray state and was drafted with the 2nd overall pick. I’m not saying he’s the same as Chandler was more highly touted coming out of high school and not sure that he could make the same jump as Ja as Ja is a freak athlete but it’s something to think about.
Not projected as a sure fire first rounder is absolutely a reason to stay?
He’s a first-rounder. A mid-to-late first round pick but a first rounder I am confident.
Besides, even if he were to go very early 2nd round I could still see him leaving. The biggest detractor to his draft stock is his height and that isn’t going to change. For all the reasons @SGMVols laid out, there is just very little reason for him to return as badly as we want him to.
I think that depends on the pick ultimately…if he falls outside of 20 then I don’t think that’s because of size, no it isn’t helping him, but there was a point he was considered Top 10-15, definite Top 20 and his height hasn’t changed from that time…so his stock dropping isn’t due to him shrinking.
He was widely considered Top 15 preseason/early season, when he was the same height, that was my point. Yet it limits his ceiling, that has always been the case, but his stock has been dropping is my point and his height hasn’t changed.I haven’t seen him projected that high since before the season began. 17th from Givony recently is the highest I’ve seen in quite some time. I’m not arguing he can’t improve his draft stock if returns, but I think he has a ceiling due to his height, and I’ve seen plenty of people suggest that in their mocks.
The slot value for pick #10 is 4.37 million in 2021 and for pick #30 is $1.99 million in 2021. I don’t know if $2.38 million is enough to convince him to come back considering the injury/2nd contract implications, and that there is no guarantee he would be able to raise his stock to #10.

Jaden Springer was drafted 28th by the 76ers and has played limited minutes. He's making a bit over $2 million a year, team option in year 3.
