Your bigs are in foul trouble and your opponent is running pick and rolls and taking the ball inside and scoring on your ineffective man defense the entire second half. The situation cried out for a switch to a zone defense--and he did nothing.

On offense, Martin did the same thing--nothing. We couldn't get the ball inside, so we passed it around on the outside and then launched a three. Same thing the entire second half. The offensive situation was a little more understandable--the Vols apparently have no depth. :eek:hmy:

And you really think that was Martin's strategy for attacking the zone?

Playing against a zone, no matter how good your front court is, you HAVE to knock down threes. Andy Kennedy's approach was obviously to play a sagging zone all night, no matter how many threes UT was making. He gambled that UT's guards wouldn't be able to make enough, and he happened to be right. Not Martin's fault.

Martin's Quotes:

"I didn't think we were very aggressive at attacking the rim off the dribble all night. I thought we didn't do a very good job with that.

I don't know if we did a very good job of using the dribble penetration. Really only on the perimeter. Cam Tatum some and Trae, they're good at attacking off the bounce, but I don't think we did a very good job of using our dribble to get in the lane.

We had opportunities to get the ball inside. I don't think we were posting as aggressively as we needed to. But it was also a combination of the guards really looking inside and not being hesitant to make the post feeds. "

We sure could have used Kenny Hall tonight. Another big man with shot blocking ability would have won this game IMO. Too bad he messed up. Go Vols ... win the NIT !!!

And coach needs to reevaluate. I really think we have 2-4 more wins if we have a zone to go in order to change it up or stop a run. If he wants his players to do whatever it takes to win, he needs to do the same as the HC.

Good season, and bright future. Please realize people, that its ok to question the coach, and give him your full support at the same time.

I think we should've switched to zone as well. Seemed like almost all of Ole Miss's baskets came from within 15 ft. I bet they only attempted about 10 3pt shots all night. It couldn't have hurt to at least try zone defense to see if we could stop them from driving in & scoring easy buckets every time.

CCM clearly has no idea what he's doing out there. Get rid of this Bozo and go drop a mountain of cash on Brad Steven's doorstep.

My post is sarcastic, but someone else's like this will serious by the end of the day.

You need to understand this is not possible.

Your a negavol anytime you question the acts or motives of a coach at UT. How dare your suggest that he could have done some things different, what are you thinking?

The difference is that I am man enough to be able to support him, yet question decisions and understand that he makes and will make mistakes because every coach makes them.
Most in the ff on DD are incapable of that level of maturity or sense.

The decision that frustrated me was allowing them a full offensive set at the 1 minute mark knowing that they are a terrible foul shooting team. We could have started fouling earlier than 25 seconds to go and extended the game by at least 3 possessions.

I agree, but what I believe Martin is doing is setting a foundation for what he wants his teams to do moving forward.

He's sending a message to guys he's going after that they will play tough, man defense or they're not wanted here.

When your opponent is zoning , you must beat them down the floor , eliminating their chance to set the defense . :hi:

This was my issue.

We didn't zone. Whatever, we haven't zoned all year, no surprise. Too late to try.

However, we should have pushed the tempo. We kept getting to the line.

Forget the zone, we simply didn't play D like we are capable of playing.. And when a team runs a zone you penetrate until the zone begins collapsing which in turn opens up the 3 point shot..

No equation needed.

I like Martin but he didn't adjust well in the second half. They should have been all over the Ole Miss player who went to his left EVERY TIME from the top of the key. Tatum should have been hedging too.
