What was the deal with Vescovi last night...

His play reminds me of JJJ last year. Disinterested seems like a good word to describe it. That's why I brought up the possibility of injury. We knew about the knee with JJJ last year.
Not really sure how you can acknowledge JJJ's injury last year, and speculate about one for Vescovi, and then choose to describe their demeanor as "disinterested". I'm not sure how injured players attempting to play show a level of disinterest.

Now, I will agree that Santi has shown what I'd call a degree of disinterest/disgust on the court, but I don't think it has anything to do with him being injured. I also don't think JJJ showed any level of disinterest while he attempted to gut it out last year through an injury. That's actually a pretty silly comment.

Don’t forget not only the “disinterest” wording, but also the “looked like he didn’t want to be out there” phrase. I just don’t get the premise that people can determine that look from watching a player.

There’s more to basketball than just offense. Vescovi is our best rebounding guard and one of our best defenders. He hasn’t found his normal long range shot outside of the Kansas game, but he’s played tough defense IMO

In Maui, I think he was far from “hurting the team”
Kansas 21 points / 4 rebounds / 3 assists
Purdue 8 points / 4 rebounds
Syracuse 8 points / 5 rebounds / 5 assists

Averaged 12.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2,67 assists.
Ahhh refreshing to hear from someone with basketball knowledge and common sense. Not sure what was going on with him at UNC but he’s an asset to the team.

JJJ did not look himself. Maybe disinterested might be too strong a word. Maybe, distracted might be better. Pain can cause that.

The term "looked like" means what it says. It avoids saying that he literally doesn't want to be out there only that he has the appearance of someone that doesn't wants to be out there.

I think it has to do with the transfers.
Gainey a much better ball handler
Knecht can make his own shots. He doesn’t have to give up a hard 2 for a possible wide open 3, especially if he can draw a foul.

I was talking about Vescovi.
Well the conversation related to being hurt and looking disinterested was about JJJ, so there's the confusion.

I'm not certain what is going on with Vescovi, but it doesn't appear to be physical, to me, unless you want to include a bruised ego, potentially.

2 time all-SEC and never one hint of drama in 4 years - I think he’s earned better than to having the fan base (not you in particular) making a bunch of WAG’s concerning the small sample size to date. Let’s show him complete support and hopefully he will return quickly to his proven norm. JMO, TIFWIW, AARP

Well, unless you choose not to believe @Stoerner Fumbles, he has all but confirmed that Santi isn't necessarily satisfied with his current role (paraphrasing). At best, he's having trouble adjusting to it, so take that how you will. Barnes called him out publicly and in the locker room. I'm not sure it's a WAG to say something is going on and there is no appearance of it being a physical issue. I highly doubt Barnes goes after him the way he did if there was a physical issue limiting him.

You're right, hes never been an issue, and i actually bragged on him earlier this year for what appeared to be a team-first attitude. I'm not attempting to drag him, now, but I also don't believe there's nothing going on, either.

Again, I wasn’t inferring you specifically as you lean towards the supportive end of fanship. There seems to be too many posting to throw Vescovi to the curb type of comments by some idiots on here. I have a strong belief that Vescovi will find his groove and this team will jell as the season progresses.

13 minutes too long.

When he is out on court dribbling away and not getting free for shots and not hitting them he is hurting the team and not helping.

Hopefully Barnes is figuring this out.

I am not a Santi hater but when he is not looking and hitting his shots the other team only has to guard 4 Tennessee players with their 5.
His grandmother, who he was very close to, died and he took it super hard. Today he completely took over for like 5 minutes straight

People acted like grieving the death of a close family member, while being thousands of miles away from his support system shouldn't have affected him mentally. While playing a sport that requires emotional and mental stability. He seemed to have exorcised a lot of those demons today when he took over midway through the 2nd half

Agreed he helps the team when he is looking to score.

I hope he finds consistency. If he and James become consistent this team will be dangerous. They need at least 2 more to consistently step up besides Knecht.

He helps the team when he is looking to score, huh? No offense, but the ways he helps his team is far beyond your understanding. Either you just haven’t followed what he really does or you just don’t understand the intricacies of college basketball.

Few things will improve a player’s game more than a good demon exorcism.

Leaves his feet on defense way too much.. Good thing he can hit shots or he'd be a liability.

It'd be nice to have a team that just goes out and win games...play up to expectations than one where we have to analyze and dissect their mental state(s) etc to figure why they are losing. Vols were ranked like 7th before the season? Now 17th? So they haven't lived up to projections or expectations and we sit here and have to come up w reasons why and come up w optimistic takes how they will come around in March cuz we're just too talented not to and the next thing you know we're losing to some mid-major in the tournament. Seems like an annual ritual. Just once I'd like us to exceed expectations or at least play up to them and not have to psychoanalyze guys to figure out what's "wrong" and why we aren't as good as we should be.

No kidding. JJJ put his body through a ton to keep trying to get back to where he needed to be last season, and people here say dumb things like that. Seems the opposite of disinterested imo. He had maybe more risk than reward in coming back this season, given his age and health history and how long guys like him make it playing most levels of pro ball with real earning potential.. He comes back, with all the work that entails as far as prepping his body, and gets stuff like this said about him. Seems like the self appointed VFL police don’t appreciate it.

And yeah, I know, I know. Let me get ahead of you “Hey, JJJ” responders. Yes, it’s me, JJJ. You got me. Or I am his Mom. You decide.
