WR U?
QB U?
RB U?

It got me to thinking after seeing all these WR U posts that it would be better to be known as QB U or RB U than WR U? Sure, its nice but no team has ever won much without a good QB and and RB combo. WR often cannot be truly effective without a QB to get them the ball or a RB to make the D honest.

You can have the greatest combo of WRs ever, but without the QB and running backs, you don't have much offense

Just my 2¢

Good thought and question. Most important position is QB. WRU is great and all and it's a well-earned moniker over time. I'd rather be known QBU though.

QB U..in today's football it's a must to have a good qb. It use to be some offenses were more tb oriented, like auburn or Uga in the 80's. It's a must to have a good qb.....doesn't have to be great and can even be a caretaker but you must have competent qb play.

I'd rather be known as WRU.

There is only 1 QB on the field at a time. The best quarterbacks want to be known for their ability to have incredible passing games. If you have only a 1 or 2 decent recievers, the passing game will suffer.

A team that is loaded - like WRU - is very appealing to any number of elite QB prospects, making it easier to haul in 1 or 2 of them.

Same thing with RB's, there is only 1 or 2 of them on the field at a time, so they do not have the same potential for game changing impact on a play-by-play basis that 3-5 WR's do.

RB's know that the only way they can be successful is to have a good line and to have a great passing game. If we do not have WR's to throw it to, you can forget about any sort of an effective running game.

People are interested in seeing big-time plays and, more times than not, those big plays come through a passing game. An incredible passing game can bring a lot of good attention to the program.

WRU all-day long!

Understand your reasoning, but it hasn't helped us snag a top flight QB in years

Also, it works the same with a Top QB. Top WRs want to play with a guy that can get them the ball

Running back U. Our best teams have always been ones with a stud RB and dependable running game.

We've had some pretty good QB's come here... Clausen, Ainge, even Bray was highly regarded when he came here and that's not mentioning the obvious UT QB favorites... and others who wanted to come here - Tahj Boyd/Bryce Petty.

Had Boyd or Petty came here, there would be no significant gap in strong QB play at UT.

W.R.U. because multiple receivers can go through the program and leave their mark and then off to the NFL in a four year period; however, usually only one or two q.b.s' or one of two rb's go through the program in the same amount of time.

Compare: 1995 - 1998 Rosters

NFL QB's: Manning (Indy) & Martin (Pittsburgh) (2)

NFL Receivers: Price(Buffalo) Nash (Denver) Silvan (TB) Kent (Houston Oilers) C. Wilson (S.F.) Copeland (Titans)
Scott ( Pittsburgh) E. Parker (S.D) David Martin (G.B.)
(9)

NFL RB's: Jay Graham (Baltimore) Lewis (Baltimore) Henry (Buffalo) Stephens (T.B.) Bryson (Buffalo) Barthalamew (Denver) (6)

The more players that we get in the NFL means the more exposure that we get.

For the longest time UT was known as "wide receiver" University because it had so many good WR's and they went to the NFL.

"the all of the above" U

I miss bad arse depth at RB. We will get back to that hopefully. Hurd may be next Jamal.
I am excited about the awesome talent we have at WR now. 92 days! Go vols!
