Who were our running backs during the Neyland years? I'm having trouble remembering their names, but I do recall UT having the best defense.

Hank L. ran the ball. So did George C. George was the 1st player in the draft, during his senior season. Going to Da Bears.

We'd rather be known as UT with that expressing all of those factors with no one wanting to see us on their schedule.

QB U if you don't have a QB that can throw them the ball the receivers wont do you any good and now days Running Backs are a thing of the past.

I think we've been called bla bla U at just about every position at one time or another. With the exception of Manning (maybe Shular) we really haven't been QB U. And, late 90's/2000's we could have been LB U!

The University of Tennessee. Don't care how many rings Bama buys, or Barn cheats to win or how often another school skates to the Championship. We won our last titles as WR-U seemed to work out just fine then. The question you seem to be raising is does a good QB make average WRs look more better than a good WR makes an average QB look better, it makes perfect sense if you don't think about it. We need to be a good team to win doesn't matter how good any one position is. Bray was the best QB I have ever personally seen live. OL sucked, RB sucked but WR and QB were great but we sucked.
