What you would you? Would you have done what OE did? A poll question..........

What would you do?

It's hard not to be cynical, but sometimes you just need to assume some things are not as they seem.

Maybe she just lost her job a year ago and the Escalade is under water. Maybe it was leased and turning it in would cost her more money than she had. Likely? Maybe not -- but it's so easy to be cynical now that you have to try hard not to be.

In the end, right choice -- how bad would you have felt if you gave her nothing and saw her taking the bus home with a handful of groceries? Err on the side of good karma and trust in people -- you'll get burned a few times, but the deserving acts are worth it.

Your a cop right? If so I woulda...

Got her plate # and pulled off some poleece shenanigans.

I would never do any thing unethical.

On the other hand, we got a newbie two weeks ago and is the typcial top gun scenario.

So me and my staff sergeant thought we would bring him down to earth by relieving him of his car when he parked for "lunch" left some shattered glass in the parking space.

Newbie should have known better and thought about it but he wigged.......

Very doubtful, her clothes were in awful shape unless she was trying to play the part.

None of the above OE!!

Follow her home and steal the Escalade.

The Cadilac Escalade is the most stolen vehicle in America.

No one would ever suspect you and besides, it was probably already a stolen vehicle.

I sort of learned that lesson early on, back before food stamps and football was still the roughest thing on campus, my boy scout troop volunteered to deliver Christmas groceries to the needy and our last stop was at a nice house, better than most of us lived in and nobody was home.

There was a nice new car sitting in the driveway, so obviously it was a two car family, not something that was universal in those days by any means.

We peeked in the front window and they had Christmas presents stacked half way to the ceiling.

Instead of taking it back to the distribution center and letting someone deliver it later, our asst scout master marked that name off the list and took it back way up on a ridge where a little old black lady lived who really did look in need and told her we had ended up with one bag extra, would she please take it.

Problem solved.

Oh, and I meant to add, for the benefit of those of you who tend to gripe about farm subsidies, food stamps come under the heading of farm subsidies, by far more money goes into that than any other kind of farm subsidies and not very much of it ends up in the pocket of someone who is actually out there working his ass off to produce food for our tables.

Maybe she has a sugar daddy who has an escalade? I would have been upset though. Technically its welfare fraud and should be reported.

OE is a cop. He could just wait until he sees that Escalade crusing about and get his mojo back.

Dang OE - you know us small govt types really just hate the poor. Why'd you have to go and ruin that stereotype. You're out of the club son.

I would have said sure, I would have asked him where his car was and went from there. In the past I have had a good track record with witnessing and getting people involved my with churches Stowe Center, it is a place for people to try and get back on their feet.

After Saturday, I really have no desire to do that any more.
Someone once told me, "If you want to know what kind of servant you are, just see how you react when you get treated like one". Never forgot that.

All you have to do is satisfy what the Master impresses you to do; the situation of the recipient is between them and the Lord... He just has a way of rewarding everyone involved in a manner consistent with their MOTIVES.

Never second guess charity, never kick yourself for being taken advantage of. His eye is on the sparrow and He watches over you.

Quite a few years ago I had a guy come up to me in the University Mall parking lot in Tampa and tell me that he and his family were on their way to Miami and had broken down and needed some money for a car repair so they could get home. I felt sorry for him and gave him a $20, which was all the cash I had at the time.

About five years later, in a different location of the exact same parking lot, this same guy comes up to me w/ the same sob story. Needless to say I went ballistic on him. I didn't hurt him, but he got the heck outta there before I lost my temper any worse.

Since then, I'm pretty uncharitable to panhandlers. If they look like they are physically able to work a job, I won't give them money. I might buy them some food, depending on the situation. I prefer to help people whose situation truly is worse than being lazy and shiftless in one of the richest countries in the world.

You did the right thing OE.

It's a perfect example of the problem with modern society. Many scrounge off others or the Government and believe that they are entitled to something. Unfortunately there are also needy people who truly need help. This has been something that has bothered me for a quite long time, and is something that is butchering our political process. Many on the right believe Social Darwinism if you will, that a good percentage of these individuals are bums who are not entitled to anything and are perfectly able to work -- this may be true to an extent, but there are many others who cannot work and who are weakened by misfortune or other unfortunate events, individuals who need help, or require assistance to get themselves back on their feet. Of course many on the left or rather, it is believed that many on the left believe that this is true for 99% of cases, which in a perfect world it would be.

Unfortunately, if we all went around doing things out of the goodness of our heart we would be back stabbed by individuals like the lady you mentioned. It's an unfortunate series of events reoccurring in many places in the United States and around the world for that matter. People just don't do things with common courtesy or decency any more.

It's not your fault, but essentially her fault and societies fault for failing to prevent this.

Perhaps when our fellow poster is in trouble one day, or peradventure that he leaves his wallet at his house someone would be there to provide assistance, but I think out of karma alone, there will be no assistance.

I agree. It's never a bad thing to help someone out. For OE, it came back and bit you and that's fine - but you seem to know what you are doing when it comes to helping the needy.

But yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I have very good friends from South Carolina who are staunchly conservative because they believe that everyone in need just needs to work a little harder - otherwise they are freeloading - this opinion saddens me.

On second thought, you should have shot her for not driving an obamamobile.
