why does there seem to be so much talk about the recruiting and still we are losing prospects we really need . they say they love the visit to knoxville and all but why are they not committing. but any way do u think we will still get marlon brown? but you can also say we have only had a full staff for a month now but it is a little dissapointing because of the hype all in all we need some talent

I am in the vast minority I think and I do not think that Brown comes to Knoxville.

I think the only major name we get on NSD is Darren Myles.

Please don't post in all caps.

I don't think there is any guarantee that Tennessee signs 25 kids in this class. I'd say closer to 20 is more likely.

Man I'm glad you started this thread I have been thinking the same thing and can't find any information on any of your great questions anyway. :banghead2:
What people don't seem to realize is with most of the visitors lately never were our's so we aren't "losing" them. For the most part these are guys that had absolutely no intention of visiting Tennessee before CLK put together the staff. In some cases they are no more then courtesy visits out of respect for our staff and may be part of the relationship building with their high school coaches. There is a method to the madness it's just hard for us to understand it. I am sure on nsd we will learn alot about this years recruiting efforts that at this point only confuse us.

"second-year bump", Vol Fan.

when an elite program gets a new coach, it finishes at or near #1 in its 2nd year of recruiting.

Saban/Weiss/Meyer/Carroll/Tressel

we can go 7-6 or 10-2 in 2009 and still finish at or near number 1 in 2010's arms race.

don't sweat it.

you can read about it in this article---

Tennessee Volunteers set disturbing precedent with salary spree - Stewart Mandel - SI.com

scroll down on page 2 to this part and read on---

"Which brings us back to February 2010, when -- mark it down now -- Tennessee will be sitting atop the recruiting rankings."

I think our biggest mistake was not getting Trooper. He might not have been the best coach, but he really relates with the kids look at what has happened at AU since he got there.I might be wrong.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't think you hire a person based on what a few kids decide to do. I want the best people here for the long haul. That's coaching + recruiting. For whatever reason, CLK didn't think he was a good fit here. I think part of it was wanting to break free from anything Fulmer related.

Rodney Garner was a better recruiter for Tennessee and no one's heartbroken he's been at UGA for several years. Trooper is just the more recent loss and that's why everyone bemoans the fact that we let him go.

Granted Kiffin went after Garner unsuccessfully, but one position coach/recruiter doesn't make or break an entire staff.

Orgeron/Thompson/Lane each individually have much better recruiting resumes than Trooper.

Huh? I'm pretty upset that Garner is at UGA and that we didn't get him. I think a lot of people are on my side on that one too.

And, Trooper would've probably joined those 3 current UT coaches that you listed... not replaced one of them. He's Auburn's Wide Receivers coach ... so comparing him to Frank Wilson is probably more appropriate. Taylor holds the assistant head coach position at Auburn as well, but I think he would've come back to UT if we had offered him the WR coaching position. I could be wrong.

I guess I'm grasping at straws and I guess I've forgotten how it is to think like a teenager. If I knew it was close for me making the NFL looks like I would want to go to a pro-style Off. coaches that knows what it takes to get there and all the facilities that is among the best there is out there.

Trooper came back to SEC for resume building. Won't be at Auburn 2 years. He's not that good of a coach imo

can someone please name for me the GREAT players trooper has been credited with coaching....

riggs and houston tore it up when he was rb coach and meach and the boys tore it up when he was a WR coach. the man took them to the next level wherever they put him. he is a very good coach, and a great recruiter.

Riggs underachieved, Houston when healthy was good, but not on the level with the top backs to play here.

Your opinion does not have to be mine. I think he was a good coach. But we have had better. Houston and Riggs never reached the level of Jamal, T. Henry, Stephens, Garner, Webb, Cobb, Stewart, Hayden, Graham, and so on.

Good but not great.

true and i agree with that, but that wasn't my arguement. my argument was that he got the most out of riggs and houston that year as runningbacks coach. the man can coach. moved him to reciever and once again they improved greatly. troop is good.
