Whats The SEC Record After Today?

Here's the thing in the 90's when the SEC was down, we still won and we still recruited well. When we were relevant nobody ever said, "man I hope Florida wins their bowl game" Now that we suck people Jock the SEC, its a pathetic loser mentality.

Yeah we won...Citrus Bowls. Today SEC runner-ups/3rd place team ends up in NOLA. When we were "dominant" only the SEC champ was making one of the Big 4. That changed starting in 98 with the BCS.

Interesting thread.

With the 4 team playoff looming, conference strength definitely comes into play.

If the SEC's past reputation allows a 1-loss Tennessee team a national title shot over another conference's undefeated or 1-loss team, perhaps then you'd understand why some people prefer to see SEC teams succeed.

Makes sense. These guys don't get it though. You're wasting your time and so am i.

You guys obviously aren't old enough to remember when the Big 10 and Pac-10 used to be considered the best leagues in the land--and the press ALWAYS talked about Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, and Ohio State--not to mention Puke State up there in Penn...ALL of those yankee-boys in the press can't wait for the SEC to be shoved off the top of the mountain and get back to those days.

But they can't do that now because the SEC has dominated the BCS era, and every conversation about the NC starts with an SEC team--and I absolutely will be rooting for Auburn to beat Fl. State by as many as possible to keep the SEC on top!

So Yes--you are absolutely WASTING your time trying to convince me to accept an illogical and uninformed point of view--because I DO REMEMBER those days. :peace2::salute:

Good grief--even a gator fan understands this VERY SIMPLE CONCEPT! Thank you, Mr. Wright. :salute:

Uhhh....I did! I've ALWAYS pulled for the SEC in Bowl games--ALWAYS!

I pulled for Alabama against Puke State and Arkansas in the Sugar Bowls--and against ND back in the mid-70s Sugar Bowls.

I pulled for the Gators in their bowl games--both for SEC pride and because I've always been a Spurrier fan! I was especially glad the 'Turds beat Nebraska for the NC in '96.

I pulled for UGA in the Sugar Bowl against Pittsburgh ('76) and both ND and Puke State (was actually at the 1983 Sugar Bowl).

Simply stated--I'm a Southern boy who pulls for the SEC against any and everybody else. And it's definitely NOT a loser mentality, it's all about being PROUD OF MY SOUTHERN HERITAGE--especially as an East Tennessee native.

You guys need to get out more and travel around the country--and feel some of the ridicule that people have for Southerners first hand. Then maybe, just maybe, you'd understand. :salute:

agree 100%

I remember also. 47 years a college football fan and the first 3+ decades spent watching the rest of the country ignore us and shove us aside every chance they got. It was a popularity contest every year to see who the National Champ was and the SEC wasn't popular. It was a miserable time to be a SEC fan and the ONLY people who rooted for the SEC and believed in the SEC was the SEC. That's why I will always root for the SEC over anybody else.

These young folks have only seen the BCS era where the BCS forced everyone to take notice of us and we proved we are the best football conference in the nation.

SEC always and the rest of the country can kiss my southern ass !

So the SEC wasn't popular before the BCS era?

If that's the case, them BAMA fans claims of 47 national championships are even more absurd than I thought.

HALLELUJAH! Finally--someone who gets it and remembers!!! And from my neck of the woods.

"After Oklahoma toppled Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Sooners coach Bob Stoops said he wouldn't have to "dodge any more punches" for suggesting in the offseason that the SEC being the best league in college football was "propaganda."

I've always rooted for the SEC in bowl games. It's a rather nice situation to be in (bowl season) to be ok with either outcome. If they win, great, if they lose, well its always nice to see a rival lose a game too. Look no further than Stoops trying to declare the SEC is now dethroned as the best conference as to why during bowl season its all about the SEC vs the world. I moved up to Michigan a few years back and they hate the SEC up here. It irks them that the SEC keeps winning national titles. Sometime it's fun to be the bad guy (SEC).

For the first time in a while (maybe ever) I can't agree.

Of course sucking for the better part of a decade doesn't help.
