I have never understood why Dooley was so repelled by the idea of having alums around the program. Part of why he's not a head coach anymore.
It is against the NCAA rules to have had him do what he was offering iirc.
Also, iirc dooley did have some players around. He just wanted some order to it. Not just have them drop by without him knowing. When someone takes over a biz in the situation he took over UT it's not really surprising that he didn't want people coming around so willy nilly.
I'm pretty sure the guy isn't that incompetent. U don't have guys like Saban or Garrett consider an incompetent bafoon as a good friend. I'd kind of take those guys take on him over a bunch of ecoaches. Not saying the guy was perfect but let's face it this fan base is pretty bipolar.

Feuding with Fuad is futile.
Should one focus not on the fear of feuding with Fuad , but on the futility and frivolity of showing favoritism to Fuad?
Futile Feuding With Fuad Fuels Fires Within Former Vols
Fuad's foes must be fuming over the flock of fertile femme fatales fawning at the feet of Fuad.
Former feuds with Faud have formed fascinating football fights?

The guy might know football (I'm not convinced that he does) but he had some serious lack of people skills for a head coach of a major program. Besides irritating former players, why else would you not make contact with key HS coaches around the state?? And I'm not talking about during his final days, go check up the Chatt paper indicating he never visited any HS coaches there or in N. Georgia during his time at UT.

There is so much time in a day man. That's the way I look at his time at UT. He had sooooo much to deal with from dealing with from day 1...the NCAA on campus, to player issues, an AD on his last leg, etc etc And everything that had to do with the shambles that the Program and frankly the Athletic Dept was in. People need to realize that it wasn't just a program fix that needed to be done. Something CBJ hasn't had to deal with since he got to UT, and is getting paid a lot more too. CBJ may need to do some rebuilding in the program, but the dig difference is that Dooley had to deal with the rebuilding of the whole AD. "Functional Silos can be dysfunctional" is somewhat a way I look at it.
He also was in a major deficit when it came to players on the team. I'm sorry for hurting people's feelings but in-state TN talent isn't worth focusing on as some may wish. So he pissed them off?? He needed to go and get players he thought/knew he needed to compete in the SEC. And that's what he did. Point blank. Not that difficult to see that he had to do that, and was working on it. I can care less if he kissed the feet of the HCs in the weakest HS talent bed in the south, and up there nation wide. He focused on where he knew he could and had access....the ATL area. Again so much time in a day to get everything done, keep everyone happy, and he needed to focus on that. He obviously did deal with TN HS coaches where he felt he needed to as he got Sanders out of Paris. Yall are just flaming out on the guy based on people who are bias. You aren't hearing or taking into account the coaches he did deal with. I take MzTerry and her feelings about the guy over any bitter coach that couldn't get his foot in the door to sell an inferior product.
UT is a national recruiter for a reason yall, and he needed to keep that up. I understand CBJ is focusing on TN, which is good but concerning. Is he doing it just to make the coaches feel better, fans in the state feel better, or because he has no real solid contacts into the major hotbeds?? Dooley did, and needed to hit the ground running too with it.
He also came into TX and tried to lay ground work here which is good and smart. He had ties here and he used them, so he's incompetent because of things like that?? That's ridiculous. All I know is that not many guys are able to get an NFL HC to wear a Tennessee workout jacket to brunch with his wife in one of the most talent rich areas in the country. And that's something I saw with my own eyes, and a waste that it won't happen again imo. And I HATE the cowgirls too.
Just all imho that's all...

tell Vince we said hello too!
I searched the UT roster, and the only Sanders I could find was Austin Sanders out of Cleveland. Maybe that's who you were referring to, but Cleveland is a long way from Paris, and Austin Sanders is a true freshman, meaning he was a part of CBJ's recruiting class, not Doolittle's.
