What's up with Louisville?

I'd trade coaches with Memphis tomorrow. Fuente is going to be at a big job soon.

If Strong can win at UofL he can win at Texas...he cleaned house his first year so I think he gets at least a few more.

UT has been irrelevant for a long time now and those big boosters are probably losing patience especially having to see little brother in College Station have all that success.

Stats vs Rice:

TX is really bad and, if not for that crappy conference, they will be lucky to make a bowl game.

He doesn't have his ace recruiter he had at Louisville. He is alienating TX HS coaches. What recruiting successes he has had in TX are kids (or their families) who just want to play at TX. Of his famed "Florida 5" from the 2015 class, only one is on campus. He's recruiting a lot of marginal players who are grade risks. The job at TX is too big for CS IMO.

That's a good point about Clint Hurtt maybe you're right.

^^ ntx is exactly right.

Strong can't recruit and it will be his downfall in the end. The next coach is going to inherent a mess of a roster. Strong will probably be safe this year. With Texas getting rid of Patterson 4 years (@1.4 mil a year) before his contract expired, you have to believe it's too much money to consider firing Strong this year. They've bought out Patterson, Mack, Rick Barnes, Shaka Smart & Charlie Strong. I'm not sure what the total amount of the buyout is there. Mack had about a 3 million dollar buyout (that was negotiated down from its original 5+), Patterson will be at least another 2 mil, Rick Barnes was paid 1.75 mil. Shaka Smart is getting paid 3 mil a year, had a 500k buyout. Texas bought out Strong @ Lous for 4.5 mil and they still pay him 5 mil a year plus incentives. Texas is the biggest cash cow is all of CFB but even I dont know how they could manage firing Strong after this year. His buyout would be upwards of 15 million.

Saw the turnovers. I also saw the yards they gained, the time of possession, the total plays, etc etc. Wasn't questioning how they lost. Obviously mistakes at some point turning it over. Questioning how you move the ball that much (and well), yet turn it over four times and mess up the game.

I picked BG since they're at home, but I think BG is due for a letdown game. This one might be it.

I can't imagine a letdown here. Whichever team wins could possibly be ranked (Memphis already receiving votes-not sure about BG). Plus they are each battling for the Non P-5 slot. Should be a shootout! Last time I saw the O/U it was at 80 haha.

Turnovers get your ass beat almost every time. In this case, it's the one relevant stat that contributes to the story. Before your time, but in the Mumme era, Kentucky would roll up 500+ yards a game, score 40+ points, and lose.

That's not true at all. Steve Kragthorpe coached three seasons after Petrino left. Strong built Louisville basically from the ground up. He brought in a ton of guys with serious talent such as Bridgewater and Devante Parker. They don't have a quarterback right now. Hopefully they don't figure it out either. Would love to see the Cardinals go 5-7 or so this season, although I'd take 0-12.

Don't remind him of Kragthorpe and the mess he caused, that ruins a good story.

With 4 TO's created, TX likely started with short fields or had defensive TD's. Therefore, skewing their offensive numbers. We had better offensive stats than UF in the 2008 game; meant very little when the final was 30-6.

Yes. 4 turnovers is bad, but Rice pretty much handed Texas 21 direct points off special teams/defense. Add in one 70 yard TD, and that's an easy 28 points. Outside of the first drive Texas I don't think they had a single sustained drives.

Rice lost the turnover battle, but they made it worse with special team blunders, field position, and giving up a few explosive plays leading to short/easy drives.

Not that Texas is great offensively but that would explain lower numbers despite winning. We gave up a Brandon James PR for a TD, an early KO return set UF up with a 30 yard field or so and we had a turnover that gave them a short field as well; all in the 1st half. When it was all said and done UF had like 280 yards of offense and 30 points.
