What's with the Sunsphere hate?

I've never had a problem with the Sunsphere growing up and I honestly thought it was cool the times I got to go up in it. I hadn't heard people hate on it until I joined this forum, so what's up with that?

Well, let's see, the Sunsphere was a feature of the 1982 Worlds Fair. 20 years earlier, Seattle hosted the World's Fair.

Not much substance to that needle though, it's a glorified lookout tower. It doesn't have a "classy" bar in the top of it.

it's not the greatest thing in the world but it is uniquely Knoxville and I've always liked it. Should have been taller though

Thought the elevator got stuck a few months ago on it. Someone hit the button for the floor that's under construction and we just sat there and the door wouldn't open back up.

I always thought it was interesting that the two main cities of my adulthood both had phallic monuments in their skyline

I remember it being blue and I think I liked it better that color. I did some research and found out why blue worked better. It was originally painted blue to represent the sky and the gold sphere is the sun.
