When we drive through Knoxville on the Interstate the Sunsphere is the first landmark (unless you count a painting of big brown squirrel) that my kids look for to know they finally made it there.

I want to know how they got that little stage up there and how they themselves go onto the stage. Clearly that was before the antenna was put on top of it. Maybe there is a maintenance hatch they climbed through and the stage was air lifted up on the top?

Jake Butcher was connected to the Sunsphere. And Jake ended up in a lot of trouble and not very popular....(along with Ray Blanton). Therefore, right or wrong, a lot of people still make that connection

There was a Family Guy episode where Peter made fun of the Sunsphere...I can't remember in what context or why he was in Knoxville.

Also a Simpsons episode where some of the boys stole Homer's car to go to the world's fair in Knoxville only to realize they were a decade + too late.
