I was one of those who didn't put a lot of faith in VY's abilities to lead the team to victory in a tough situation. The game yesterday has forced me to rethink my position, he silenced his doubters to a large extent who said he was never going to grow into the type of qb that would perform and lead under pressure. I have seen a huge amount of growth in the past year in just about all phases of his game and I see no reason why he wouldn't continue to grow.
Bottom line is Vince has proven me and many others wrong so far and deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point. His performance so far this year and last night in particular warrant it. Is VY ever going to be a gun slinger? No. Can he be the kind of qb who can keep you in games and give you a shot at winning in the end? Yes, it looks like he can.
Give Heimerdinger much credit.
Mike Kieth said this morning that Dinger thinks the biggest change is getting VY to keep looking for a receiver once he starts to run.... That game winner to Britt... old VY woulda kept runnin'..He is letting Vince be Vince. I think too much of the focus had been on trying to alter VY's game and Vince never felt comfortable. It looks like Vince has put in the study needed and they have a certain comfort level in letting him make the decisions. His decision making abilities have been so much better than in years past, sure he still makes a bad decision here and there but that is part of the process with a young qb, especially a qb who relied on his legs so heavily in college.
I agree Heimer deserves credit here, he obviously worked with Vince and and is making good choices on play calling and keeping the reins on his qb loose enough while keeping Vince working within the system.
