you don't ever give up on your team until the season's over... then you start getting excited about the next season.

I didn't give up when Houston and Buzz were the coach. I'm not about to give up now or ever. You aren't really a fan if you give up. Go support some other team. You are a bigger loser than any team if you actually give up.

Odd definition.

e.g., saying things like the team will be lucky to win 20 games. When they've won 18 thus far.

and "you can't fix suck"

But the thread seems to have served its purpose.

Mods may remove it if they wish.

I haven't given up on this team. That being said they continually irritate the hell out of me, not because they lose but because they show poor effort and make terrible decisions while doing so. I know a loss is a loss but I feel a little better about them when your team doesn't get humiliated. Vanderbilt is better at what they do then we are, much of the reason for this is poor discipline and terrible decisions made by this team.

Why would anyone give up on an 18-5 team? Only a fool would expect to win every game and think we will play the same each game.

I won't ever give up on them but they need to get their heads screwed on straight if they want to make a deep run in the tourney. When we play with effort, we are a hard team to beat and one of the best teams in the country. When we play with NO effort, were a piss poor basketball team just to be quite honest.

Sometime u play poorly and the opponent plays really well, with a call here and there you get blown out.. It Happens..

Do you really think we are 30 points better than South Carolina????

I do not believe we are a final four team and doubt many Big Orange fans do either. But I am a VOL. I was thru Mears, Devoe, Houston, O'neal, Green and Buzz, and all the fillers in between..

As far as "giving up" on this team. I can't say I ever give up on any Tennessee team. There's a possibility, however slight it may be, that this team will finally start to play consistently well.

As far as thinking that they're going to anything of significance in the postseason, I did give up on that right after USC(the real one) loss.

It sure sounds like a bunch of fans have given up...multiple times...and likely will give up many more times before the season is over.

I think a good many of us are still a bit new to this "winning" thing when it comes to basketball.

Define "give up".

Haven't given up, but when did I become extremely skeptical of the team and realize that they aren't 2nd weekend material?

Sometime during the 4 games leading up to USC. Just waiting to see which subpar team would knock us off.

Unlike what you may think, nobody expects us to win every game. But after awhile simply getting to the NCAAT and losing in the first weekend grows tiresome.

This 18-5 team is inflated by Bruce's conscious effort to under schedule after getting a terrible seed last year, no thanks to our OOC. Having a much easier schedule has made our record gaudy without taking blowouts that would have us on the bubble right now (with last years schedule).

18-5 is great but the SEC record will be more telling. And the results in the tourneys will be the most telling of all.

Still Going to every home game cheering my lungs out and hoping like heck they still got some fight for the road. So not giving up. Look at Georgia a couple of years ago. They had a losing record but won the SEC tournament and made the dance and were in the ballgame with less than 5 min utes to go against Xavier in first round of NCAA.

I expected nothing from the beginning of the season, and 'gave up' on expecting anything great. They got my attention during the Purdue game and again after the dismissals.....but the back to back losses secured my lack of 'enthusiasm.' It doesn't mean I don't root them on, but they don't have it.

I "gave up" on the the thought that we'd even make it past the sweet 16 to (or even to it) when I saw that we returned the exact same team (where most of the players - save Hopson - were already veterans and weren't going to improve that much) as the previous year when we exited the tournament in the 1st round - or in other words - March. And the fact that we only added an average JUCO PG and a big man that needed time to develop - plus lose Negedu.

This team was never going to be better than last years (atleast not by much) even with Tyler Smith on the team. Maybe we win a few more at the buzzer (instead of losing last like last year) due to having so many seniors - but that's about it.

But different definitions on "giving up". I still always watch every minute of every game and root them on... if that's what it's asking..

Exactly. Some of these Diaper Dandy newbies on here who cry all the time don't know how far the basketball program has come.
