that defense does not win Basketball games. BBall is a SCORING game. You can slow the game down when you have to, but it is my opinion that you have to have a very superior team to win primarily with defense in BBall.

This has to be the oddest timed thread I've ever seen. You realize Florida is a defensive team, one of the best in the country right? Lol

They are a much better defensive than offensive team, their defense is why they're ranked #3.

I wasn't clear on this aspect of basketball until I read this post. All the 2-0 games and such.

I do not agree with everything that the OP said but ask yourself this question, would you rather have a dominate offensive player or defensive player? Example, Kobe Bryant or Bruce Bowen? Defense is important in basketball but offense can be your best defense at times.

Their offense is no slouch though. Their quick guards and perimeter shooting was key for them last night. We could not keep Wilbekin out of the lane.

Kobe Bryant is a great defender. Defense wins championships. There are nights shots don't fall but you can always control your defensive intensity. Anyone who has played basketball knows this.

he's not wrong about this team. 81 pts in wins. 59 pts in losses. 58 last night. And we played pretty good defense.

Of course you have to score. But his assumption that defense isn't important is just plain wrong and I don't have to explain that to you, Sparty. We both played this game for many years.

Bottom line is you have to be solid at both ends of the floor to win in the NCAA. Tennessee has a solid D (most of the time) and an awful O

Team has so much talent just can't get anything done in the half court.

True Kobe can Defend but he will not be remembered for his Domainate D. There has to be a balance with scoring and getting stops and that is the problem with this team on certain occasions. The defense was fine but offense sputtered in the second half.

Right about this team. Wrong about Kobe. He was all NBA defensive first team for years. He is known as a lethal scorer but also a great defender. Same for Jordan and Lebron.

Why is it a funny post? It is just a question. I know defense is important because I have played ball my whole life and understand the game. UT's second half offense was bad last night and a common reoccurrence with CCM as coach.

Im no fan of Cuonzo but OP is reaching on this one. If we could run a zone as effective as Syracuse we could make the Final Four.

Fair enough but in my mind and most peoples most likely, he will be remembered more for his offense.

I didn't say defense wasn't important but this team should be outscoring people rather than trying to win by playing tough d and grinding it out. We've been saying that since before the season. We should be full court pressing/trapping and dropping back into that zone for 25+ minutes, if not more. We have 6 fast break points in the last 2 games. Both losses. And we averaged 59 pts. And if we win those 2, we are in the tourney.

Why, as a coach, do you keep doing what doesn't work the best for your team? This team is long, deep, athletic, and actually handles the ball and passes better than any team he has had yet. And he's wasted it.

Not all teams are the same. We don't need to compare to ky or Wisconsin. Or last years team. Or BP's team. This team right here was poorly misused and coached this year. My way gets us in the tourney without issue. His way has us right here again. Very. Very frustrating.

Good defense beats good offense the majority of the time.
