When is someone going to stand-up and say we have the worse DB's in the league?

They won't tackle, They try and bring folks down grabbing high, They never look back, And can't remember the last time one laid a lick like the Colorado St. DB laid that Even Deon said it was a good play. Sure we may have a few that can run but what good is it if you can't lay a lick. What's Eric Berry doing these days ? Maybe he would like to comeback and TEACH how it's done. I'm tired of these retread coaches who taught the same crap last time they were here. Duh!
I think you just said it. And I Agree! I don’t follow recruiting but hopefully Heup takes three to four elite DBs in this class. If we have some stud DBs that are freshmen, then play them this week. Don’t wait!

It’s simply the “3rd and Chavis” affliction that’s been dooming the Vols for years. Apparently, there’s no cure. It’s a chronic condition

I elect EtowahVOl to be the standup person to say it. :)

We don’t have many pbu’s this year. It’s like anytime we have one, it’s pure luck, blindly putting up a hand with no idea of where the ball is esp on deep routes

Already said it in an earlier post.

People can make a lot of excuses for Martinez or Banks but the proof is on the field. We’re three years in and most people would say there’s been no improvement on the field as far as performance. With the portal that’s just inexcusable at this point imo. We’ll roll the rest of the year with the same coaches but if there isn’t substantial improvement I would be replacing some coaches on that side of the ball.
This.

Good Lord, Doneiko Slaighter brings the heat when he’s on the field. Turnage is also physical. Are you sight impaired?

CWM is killing us. If there isn’t a change there then I’m questioning the head guy.

At this rate I don’t see how CWM makes it through the season.

I for one love the way our d plays about 95% of the game. One lousy play by Hadden, and we're the worst defense in the nation.
For the folks who seem to think receivers are running wild all over the field: our defense is 4th in the conference in completions over 10 yards and tied for first in completions over 20 yards, completions over 30 yards, and completions over 40 yards.
(I admit that it's way too early in the season to start quoting stats, but by the comments I'd expect some especially lousy numbers, not top of the conference.)

I mean, I don’t disagree, but what does standing up and announcing this do for anyone?

why say it? as far back as the 80's UT has had problems in the secondary. Every so often you get an Eric Berry, but the VOLS have a history of problems back there....nothing new IMHO.
The Vols had some good secondaries in the early and mid 80’s. We also had some good secondaries in the 90’s. The entire defense in 85 was bad to the bone. We did have a few bad secondaries in the 80’s and 90’s but they weren’t all bad. One season was got so thin in the secondary they moved Carl Pickens to secondary. He even play both ways a few games. GBO We had Chris White and Charles Davis in 85 and a ton of picks. Dale Carter and Deon Grant were 2 super talented players that always ball hawked. I could name a few more. But your point is well taken our secondary play has not been great in quite some time. GBO

That play where Travis Hunter got laid out was not a good play at all, and Deion did not say it was a good play. The play was over and the ball had already hit the ground. Filthy dirty hit.
Deon said the kid was playing hard that it was a bang bang play on the sideline and too leave the kid alone. He said he was a good kid playing hard that happened to hit him late. This wasn’t some super later pre meditated hit. He also said people threatening the kid need to stop. He was irritated by anybody that would do that. Yes Deon said this, people are making a lot about nothing. It was late but no more late than a thousand I have seen before. Folks trying to make much more out of it than they should. He also said sideline plays are tough on DB. It’s not like he was 2-3 yards out of bounds and he is coming from a angle and is not totally sure he is out or not till he is too close to pull up.
