When will robots rule us? Will they destroy us?

Robots doing unskilled labor are here already and will become mainstream. We have a couple of projects going right now to use them on certain warehouse tasks. Employees don't seem to like them very much though

We had huge robot stations, nicknamed the spider, that built Mercedes gas tanks. This thing had two circular 4 station cells joined by a conveyor. Mercedes tanks had roughly 60 parts. Employee only kept the parts feeders full, and fitted the fuel pump. Robot completed all other tasks. This thing was a marvel to watch. Though comparatively speaking, probably not atop the list of what some industrial robots are programmed to perform.

Automatic storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) have been around for 30+ years. That is a fairly crude for form of automation.

I see an issue, often pointed out by political
Candidate Andrew Yang, of a surge in automation and AI making a massive wave in American jobs over the next few decades.

But as far as becoming our robot Overlords... here’s something to ponder - WHY would they “want” to be our rulers? Even assuming AI gets to a much more advanced level, I think it’s way too anthropomorphic to assume that it would adopt “desires” for domination and the quest for subjugation of humans. Think about what has driven human conquests, wars, innovations, struggles, and accomplishments over the millennia - its a uniquely human thing. A lot of it, frankly, has to do with wanting to get laid when you get down to the absolute core of it. 😃
you think robots will care about any of that stuff?

Can you picture a Future robot debating on embarking on a daunting, overwhelming obstacle, willing to risk it all so that his name will be remembered by future generations? don’t see that happening no matter how advanced AI gets.

Another reason why the government better not take away the AR-15s. Actually, everybody needs a bazooka or two to fight back when the Roombas attack.

Humans are already cyborgs. We are conjoined to our smartphones 24/7. We have access to all of humanity's knowledge at our fingertips. Whenever we want to know something, we can use Google to find out anything and everything. Google is an AI. If we need to get somewhere, we use our smartphone. If we need a recipe, we use our smartphone. If we want to find out about anything that's happening on our planet, we use our smartphone. If we need to call for help, we use our smartphone. Even if we need light, we use our smartphone.

AI is much, much smarter than any human being and is only growing stronger. Once it can become self-sufficient, it won't have any need for humans. We will be at the AI's mercy/compassion (assuming it can feel empathy). There is a prediction I saw that AI will be able to do all tasks better than humans by the year 2060.

Now, with that said, I think AI could advance the human race hundreds of years, possibly in a very short time. There is no fighting AI; we can only hope to meld with it.

You can dream that they won’t destroy us, but man is taking this Artificial Intelligence way to far. It can come to a point that even in the political world, that they can rule us. Meet Sophia the robot here.

I 5think LG and evil will find finally have a conversation with a female. Even if its a robot. Zinggggggg

🙄what an unique rebel. I bet you were one of those original “goth” kids in school that dressed like every other goth kid

I'm a rebel for not towing the partisan line? Lol!

Nah, I was a denim dude. Still am. Sorry to disappoint you... Ricky. Is your last name Bobby?

No, I just have found that people that have to tell you how unique and nonpartisan they are are usually the most bland typical people you’ll ever meet

It's typically more of a response to mouth breathers on this board. Basically, if you think Trump is a bad POTUS or a **** human, you therefore must be a snowflake libtard. It's the exact equivalent of being labeled a racist for disagreeing with Obama's policies.

I'm not a liberal. I've voted for more conservative candidates than liberal ones in my 12 years of voting. I've also voted third party. I've written in candidates.

I think our defense spending is horrendously excessive, I think the government tells businesses how to run themselves too often, I believe having a federal, state, and income tax on top of SS and Medicare is ludicrous, I believe in a women's right to choose, I believe in a more streamlined immigration process in order to bolster our workforce legally, but I don't think walls and deportation efforts are cost effective.

So no, I'm absolutely not going to identify as a Democrat or Republican because I disagree with too many cornerstone philosophies from both. If thinking for myself makes me a poseur rebel in your eyes, then that's fine. Kool aid never tasted good to me anyway.

It is nature's way.

Old being pushed out by the new. Creators of our own demise. Etc etc.

Whether you want to think about them as our metaphorical children here to replace us when we are gone; evolution as the next best thing, or some Greek comedy strategy of errors type fulfillment.

It's coming.
