I caught just a glimpse of SEC Network's top 10 in recruiting, didn't see the Vols, but did see at least 3 other SEC teams ranked in the top 10. What's the skinny?

According to 247, which I prefer over ESPN. We are currently sitting at #16 recruiting class in the nation with 17 recruits. 6 composite 4 stars and 11 composite 3 stars.

We grab the 5 kids from Georgia, we won't be #16 for long, and a lot of these kids will be re-evaluated, so expect the Butch Bump on some of them

I know most vol fans are aware of this, but this years recruiting class will not be ranked nearly as high as the previous 2 years. The sky is not falling and Butch and his crew are still elite recruiters. This class has a limited amount of scholarships and we simply need to find the right prospects for the right positions of need. I have a feeling that we will be hearing vol fans complaining about the recruiting ranking next to our schools name, but its just not that important this year. The view i am taking on this class is QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. Go Vols and do not worry about our national recruiting ranking. We simply don't have the amount of scholarships to offer kids this year to score super high with the overall composite rankings and blah blah blah. Butch is getting QUALITY talent this coming year. GO BIG ORANGE. 2016 will be a magical year......

Pretty hard to make a "quality over quantity" argument when the vast majority of your class are 3 stars.

I'm guessing all the losses are starting to affect the sales pitch.

Cam Sutton disagrees with your assessment. I know it has been said many times, but stars are not everything. Some gazers will never understand this!

Come on man, if your so caught up in the stars then you obviously Don't trust the coaching staff and their evaluation of talent. If you don't trust the staff to bring in the right players to bring our program back to the top then what do you suggest? Do you just sit there and think every day that Tennessee will be mediocre at best? What kind of vol does that? I wake up and have faith and feel that this program is on the doorstep of national prominence and dominance again.

Let's say recruiting stays at # 16 for 2016. That would make 2 years of top 5 in the nation and a top 20. A 3 yr average of about # 7 in the nation. That should AT THE LEAST lead to a team that SHOULD be ranked and play like a # 7 ranked team. Is that wrong? With better than average coaching....certainly the "best in the country" it would or SHOULD result in fielding a top 5 in the country team.

Is this way off base as far as what expectations should be? Honest question. Not trying to be a smart alek.

I'm not worried about recruiting with Butch. But, to play devil's advocate, Bama doesn't have classes ranked out of the top 5ish, ever. Regardless of class size they always have awesome classes. That's why they are always in a position to win National Championships. Also, keep this in mind when we play them next week.

What he was referencing to, is that "quality" is of positional needs. It may not be pretty on paper, but it's more about needs and building "quality" depth, rather than just loading up on skill positions that we don't need.

*Butch slap*

Three losses--by a total of 11 points and after having double digit leads--is a team cutting its teeth, learning how to win. And a staff learning how to coach in the SEC.

I was at both Oregon games. Not fun.

Recruits see the difference from then to now. Even if Volnation cannot.

The logic is sound, but qualify it with the reminder that we'll still be a year away from having "senior leadership" from that first Top 5 class. Senior leadership is a coaching-multiplier on any team in any sport. Seniors make those "voluntary summer workouts" into daily mini-clinics.

Oh yeah, about that 2014 class...If you're talking 2017, then nine 4*'s are already gone. Paulk is gone.
Blair, Weatherd, Pearson, and Williams will be gone. Creamer, Raulerson, and Johnson are MIA. We
basically will have a senior class of 14 guys from that class that are contributing, and with 10 guys
gone for whatever reason, that is no longer a Top 10 class.
