Where do you want to retire to or have a 2nd home?

I live in the rolling green hills of east TN with a nice view of Chilhowee Mountain. No place on earth I would rather live. When I retire in 15 years me and the Wifey plan on spending January, February, and early March in south Florida or the Caribbean

I did it last Fall. We both retired, and bought a second home in the mountains of Western North Carolina, near Sugar, Beech, and Grandfather Mtns. It was 68 and sunny for a high today. There is a river, a lake and a golf course real close to the house.

It'd be nice to have a condo in Knoxville for a 2nd home right now, just to have somewhere of our own to stay during football season.

I think Lookout Mountain, Boston, or a random small English village would be nice retirement spots.

We want to travel around the country endlessly in our camper.

My dad just retired and that's their plan. They'll be traveling probably 8 months out of the year.

Just being able to go wherever you want to go whenever you want sounds pretty amazing.

1st part is my plan --- no way will I live in a "retirement community"

You might want to consider Stanley then, which is located at the foot of the spectacular Sawtooth Mountains. Estimated population, as of last year, was 69. Stanley is at an elevation of just over 6,200 ft., so it does get cold and it does receive a good bit of snow.

I have a friend who moved from Silicon Valley to Stanley. He lived there for a few years in an old rustic cabin and then bought a couple hundred acres just south of Hailey. Beautiful country up there.

What's the name of the town? I think you mentioned it before.... it sounds great

A log home in Montana on acreage where a river runs through it.
Keep some ponies for the grands and catch trout with flies I tie.

That sounds awesome. I have never lived outside of the southeast so I really don't know what it's like to live with heavy snow as a day to day reality. I think I could adapt to it but I don't suppose you really know until you've had to deal with it. It would definitely be tougher than dealing with bumper to bumper traffic on I-40. LOL!

Here is the link to webcams for Stanley (http://www.sawtoothcamera.com/). The Sawtooths are very similar to the Tetons in that they rise dramatically without foothills. They are about 3,000 feet lower than the Tetons and receive far less visitation.

My plan is to buy land in all the places mentioned above, charge you dearly to buy said land, and take my massive profits and buy a place in an as yet undetermined location.

I'll be opening a Waffle House in each of those locals... make a killing off this crew. Fight night specials Monday- Friday.

My big sister has 200 acres just outside of Austin, Texas that I can build a house on if I want to. It's too dang hot for me though. Maybe December through March would be okay... but that's basketball season at the TBA.

That's beautiful. We went out west last summer (Idaho, Wyoming, Utah) and I absolutely love it out there.

Could see myself living out there if the opportunity ever presents itself.

Already bought my vacation home in Monterey, CA. A few miles from Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, and a few other magnificent golf courses. Now I just have to buy one in Knoxville for the fall..
