Where does Pro Wrestling Go From Here?

yea, I remember JYD in the WWF. But I also remember him on a smaller level in the same league with #2.

I still remember that storyline of anyone and everyone trying to unmask #2. ha ha ha. Was there also a #1?
The JYD passed through both Mid South and Mid Atlantic before the WWF.

Recent Pro Wrestler Deaths

Chris Benoit's death in a murder-suicide is the latest in a string of professional wrestlers who died relatively young. Here is a list of some prominent performers and how they died:

This is a great idea for a thread. I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts.

Here is my opinion on a few things. First, get rid of the stupid storylines and worthless talent. Then, build a stable of 25-40 wrestlers who can move, move, move. Build the titles up to actually mean something. Build heels and faces that people want to pay to watch and slow down with these fast bookings....let things build. No more 400 lb. guys that only have 1 move.

Example: The UFC fighters. They only fight 2 or 3 times a year, they are very popular, have good matches, and people want to see their pay per views.

They do need to do more about drug testing, but I think no matter what they do about it, it will still be around. They always seem to find a way to beat the system.

I wish that they would get the wrestling back into wrestling. No more ring interviews, crazy angles, dancing, just 53 minutes of wrestling.

The same stuff that is happening now, happened in the 80's, it's just more mainstream news now. Example: Bruiser Frank Brody was stabbed to death in a locker room shower in the 80's in Mexico. You didn't hear much about that.

The biggest problem is that there are 2 major companies in the US and there used to be at least 12. They don't have much of a choice, they either have to wrestle as much as they tell you to or they will find someone else who will. That leads to more broken bodies and drug use.

You may think it's weird that a female has such a strong opinion about it, but I grew up around wrestlers and know a lot of them so that is where it comes from.

Many people, including myself were concerned that the lack of competition would diminish the product. There is no doubt that that has happened. It has also left most wrestlers with very little professional leverage.

At some point, and this may very well be where we are now, the WWE will have to prove to the public that they are no longer expecting athletes to police themselves, and will need to implement some kind of drug policy other than firing the alcoholics who don't show up for work.

I agree with Jenn and others who think that McMahon has missed the boat on the sensationalism he has created. It is almost as if his lifelong desire to be a roided freak of nature makes him believe that that is what the public wants to see.

For most lifelong wrestling fans, it was the personalities of Flair, Rhodes, Piper, Austin, Nash, Rock...etc etc that was the hook. They wrestled for years in front of adoring audiences without having to throw anyone onto a barbed wire table.

McMahon made a BIG step tonight, though I'm not sure how many people saw it (it was at the beginning of ECW)
He basically apologized for the tribute show, saying that it was done before all the facts were known. Then said that all you'd see tonight and on Smackdown were matches, the wrestlers being wrestlers and entertaining us.

That is a Solid start, and may have gone a long way towards avoiding the destruction of the business. I don't think I'm exaggerating there, because the Mainstream media is about to hit Vince over the head with the Steroid thing again, Hard.

But I think that if they can keep this (another death) from happening for a LONG time and generally clean up their act, and find SOMEBODY other than Cena to lead the industry like Austin and Hogan before him, then they'll be fine.

Is it just me - or does McMahon have a TERRIBLE habit of make rash, un-informed decisions??

*cough* XFL!! *cough*
