3 out of 4 home losses probably hasn't happened since the Kevin Oneil era. Can anyone confirm this? I guess we Vol fans are just not living right these days.

Nice free throw shooting tonight. How many points did Maze, Hopson, and Tatum have combined? 3? Pathetic. Tyler Smith was horrible as well today - part of that is due to atrocious guard play.

And once again - JP Prince proves he's a moron.

That about sums it.

Prince did a couple good things... but it's safe to say the dozen or so moronic things he did kind of outweighed the good.

Not too mention the refs missed several obvious fouls he committed and got away with... would have looked so much worse.

I about choked on air when Greg Anthony said Prince "normally" has a very high basketball IQ.

I know he was trying to be nice, but...

U can tellthe players stink, because when open threes they stall to shoot and dont shoot it

Although i'm not quite sure with the wording of it all, I will agree that this team really doesnt seem to have a reliable deep 3pt threat this year and that has hurt them

If we even had one guy who could keep the defense honest with a 3-point shot it would open things up so much.

Its amazing chism and smith can do anything at all considering they have to fight 2-4 defenders every time they take a shot.

Are you sure we didn't lose 3 of 4 home games under Buzz? I mean 2 of his teams at least were pretty bad.

Tatum is. Hopson was supposed to be.

No he wasn't. Shooting behind the arc was a complementary aspect of his game, not a focus of it. Scotty is a slasher who isn't strong enough or aggressive enough to slash. He has always had good touch, but the long ball has never been his specialty.

He also has a very nice post game, if he ever gets enough weight in his britches to actually be able to get to the post.

I have not seen any improvement for this team. Memphis is athletic, but in the grand scheme of things only an average to slightly above average team. It's just getting absolutely gut wrenching to watch TN this season. If someone would have told me they would be 12-6 after 18 games, I would have said BULL!

The one thing that was pretty good under Buzz was the homecourt. TN was several big games in TBA. I might be wrong, but I think there was at least 2 seasons where TN only lost 1 or 2 home games. They just couldn't do ANYTHING away from home. The first 3 years under Bruce, TBA was like a fortress for opposing teams, now it seems like we have lost that mystique.

And part of it was the TIGERS defense.

Go look at the previous threads. PG play and SG play have been a problem for us the whole year and just out stagnant half court offense in general. I'm sure that defense had a lot to due with our poor FT shooting.JP is always a moron no matter the competition so that's out.

Our guards didn't even look to score except Maze - so that's not really defense. Maze took a bunch of contested shots and some wide open ones - but he just couldn't hit crap today. Tatum had looks but he finished horribly and then couldn't hit FTs or turned it over by dribbling too much. Scotty didn't finish either when he got to the basket some of which were some great looks from dribble penetration... he banked em off the backboard but they didn't go down like usual.

Tyler took it upon himself to try to make up for these guys and forced a lot of bad shots since they were shooting so poorly and made retarded turnovers (JP/Cam/Scotty mostly). That's why he shot so badly and had his shots blocked several times. Our guards have been that bad all year - with a good game thrown in everyone once in awhile - so its nothing new Tiger den. Once again UT was beat by an O.K. team on their home court.

Memphis just slowed the game way down and the score showed it. Anderson and Robert Dozier do play good defense though. It's not like we were smothered in great defense and that's why we lost. We had plenty of opportunities to score more and didn't due to bad FT shooting and silly turnovers.

Memphis is good defensively, but c'mon - you were playing a just a plain bad offensive team when it comes to the half court game. I guess if double and triple teaming our best player, because our guards were no threat to score guarded or left wide open, when he got the ball in the lane is great defense then yes, it was due the TIGERS defense.
More than likely you'll see the same type of result Wednesday and won't think too much of holding us to 52. The LSU Tigers and long and athletic and have the size just like Memphis. Hopefully we'll be able to knock down our FTs to finish it out though.

Bassman I just think the TIGERS played pretty good defense today . The scheme was good and the VOLS just couldn't get it going . As of tonight they have the 6the best defense in the country. ( not too shabby )
The TIGERS aren't that good on offense either , but imo the TIGERS defese was pretty solid which created problems for the VOLS.

Get real man. Come back Wednesday night. I bet you won't be singing the same tune when LSU holds us to under 65. The same LSU team that gave up 91 to Utah. Don't confuse bad shooting by a bunch of guards who just aren't shooters and a slow pace with great defense. Stats don't tell the whole story.

If you slow it down as Memphis did and used the clock - even if UT shoots 40% or 45% it would still look like Memphis played great defense due to the score and overall lack of offensive possessions.
