Where has this kind of defense been?

The last couple have been lost with subpar O and some dumb luck on the opposite end. Have you checked our defensive stats this year?

We didn’t see this at all against Missouri, and therefore I was expecting to get beat by Alabama, who is an even better offensive team. Glad to see it return from vacation.
Missou just damn lucky making shots, period. Look at their next game. On the same token, if we’d hit out open shots in first half, we run Bama out of the building.

Missouri has a better offensive efficiency. It just seems like Bama is better because of their pace.

really liked the lineup tonight. the matchup, given TN's physicality, and the refs letting them play that way allowed the dub.

very athletic.

ON just isn't it.

Maybe it was a wall that the team hit. Fatigue/dead legs make sense especially with the missed FTs. Might be that we're catching our second wind at just the right time. The fact that they won without JJJ and Phillips against any SEC opponent much less #1 Bama is nothing short of miraculous. Tremendous effort tonight. Well done Vols.

Tennessee has been in the basketball doldrums over the last 3-4 games: they are in the middle of the season about as close to the beginning of the conference schedule as they are to the end. The losses that they suffered over this time are understandable. Tonight was great for confidence going forward and finishing the season.

That’s a good possible explanation. Nevertheless, it was so frustrating watching us struggle on defense. If Tennessee can’t play the kind of suffocating defense they normally play, like tonight, then they are very ordinary and beatable, because they are such a poor shooting team.

That’s just it, we can’t hit open shots consistently. We are a very poor shooting basketball team. Anytime we aren’t playing lockdown defense, we are in danger of being beaten.

This is the same defense they have played all season. You act like Missouri and Candy scored 90 on us lol. Those games were lost at the free throw line.. or lack of getting to it.

Uh, I believe Mizzou scored 86 and Vandy and Florida scored in the upper 60’s, well over Tennessee ‘s defensive points allowed average. Anytime Tennessee can’t hold a team under 60, they are in danger of being beaten, because they shoot so poorly.

defense has been fantastic all year. like historic.

What a dumb post

It wasn’t real historic when we gave up 86 points to Missouri. It wasn’t real fantastic when Vandy and Florida scored around 15 more than we average giving up and beat us. If Tennessee gives up more than 60 they are at high risk of being beaten because we can’t make shots on offense.

You might understand more if you actually watch the games. Then again, it might not help you.

I have maybe missed 5 this year. The offense is the problem

I don't think you know anything about Tennessee basketball lol

what you just posted proves just that

Comparing the vandy and Florida games to our average just tells you how elite the average is (and how bad this take is).

The point I’ve been making is that when we don’t play our average good defense, we are likely to get beat because our offense is so bad. Prior to tonight, our defense has not been up to par so we lost 3 out of our last 4. The defense was once again up to par (holding a team under 60) and guess what, we win. My question was , why did we not play our normal super defense for a few games. It’s not a bad take at all.

You’re overreacting to the Missouri game. Stuff like that varies in basketball. Sometimes shots just go in. They made a ton of lucky shots (and we were without 2 of our best perimeter defenders to boot).

You wouldn’t say bamas offense is bad just because they failed to score against us and Oklahoma. Our brains like to find patterns in this stuff, but sometimes it’s just random 🤷‍♂️
