Where has this kind of defense been?

The point I’ve been making is that when we don’t play our average good defense, we are likely to get beat because our offense is so bad. Prior to tonight, our defense has not been up to par so we lost 3 out of our last 4. The defense was once again up to par (holding a team under 60) and guess what, we win. My question was , why did we not play our normal super defense for a few games. It’s not a bad take at all.

This is not what your post or replies say..

I have maybe missed 5 this year. The offense is the problem

I don't think you know anything about Tennessee basketball lol

what you just posted proves just that

That’s what I’ve been saying! Our offense is bad, that’s why our defense can never be less than it’s usual great. When it is less great (allowing over 60 points), we likely get beat. (See Colorado, Arizona, Vandy, Florida, and Missouri). We have no margin for error. Play exceptional defense or get beat. My question was , where was this defense like we saw tonight, when we were getting beat by the likes of a mediocre Missouri team, and terrible Vandy and Florida teams.

This is the same defense they have played all season. You act like Missouri and Candy scored 90 on us lol. Those games were lost at the free throw line.. or lack of getting to it.
Well Mizzou did score 86…
That was a well earned 86 though cause many times there was a hand in their face. They just caught fire.

"My question was , where was this defense like we saw tonight" - Its been here all season and you are talking about games we lost recently like they matter to over teams great defense overall. I don't think you understand that this is an NCAA historic defense

you did not know that.. I know you didn't and now you are trying to back track because you are getting roasted.

Have a good night

Aside from a few games our D has been there all year. GBO!!!! And I will add Missouri hit some crazy 3’s with people on them. Not a team in the country is on every night. GBO!!!

We didn’t see this at all against Missouri, and therefore I was expecting to get beat by Alabama, who is an even better offensive team. Glad to see it return from vacation.

More satire?

We've had great defense all season. Missouri hit plenty of contested shots. They also had a good game plan and executed it well.

It happens.

Weird that you would start a thread asking where this team's defense has been.

That’s just it, we can’t hit open shots consistently. We are a very poor shooting basketball team. Anytime we aren’t playing lockdown defense, we are in danger of being beaten.

So, if we don't make shots and play good defense..... we lose?

Hmm. Groundbreaking stuff.

Who would've thought you had to play good basketball to win basketball games.

We can be a below average offensive team and still be really good if we don't turn it over. Tonight was an example of that although in a game as physical as last night against a top 10 Kenpom defense I thought our offense was decent. Just need to knock down more open shots.

Tennessee has been in the basketball doldrums over the last 3-4 games: they are in the middle of the season about as close to the beginning of the conference schedule as they are to the end. The losses that they suffered over this time are understandable. Tonight was great for confidence going forward and finishing the season.

Exactly. Late-season conference games (especially those on the road) are very tough. You see good teams drop those games all the time.

Seems like the defense has been generally good all season. Our offense, however, disappears for stretches of time. That’s basketball though. Tough to be completely consistent all season. Gotta peak at the end to make a run in the tournaments! I hope that’s what we’re about to see!

This is a historically good defense, possibly the best ever in college basketball.

You’re going to lose some games, unless you are a good team playing in a terrible conference (Gonzaga) everyone does every year, and with NIL and the transfer portal, you’re going to see the Power Conference schools move to the top in basketball too…..the days of the consistently good mid major are over, or at least ending.

Bama has had one huge weakness all year….turnovers. They rank around #300 in all of college basketball in number of turnovers and around #300 in turnovers created. They are a collection of very talented athletes, but not a great team. Look at where their success comes from….3pt shooting and drives to the rim, both individual efforts, at least the way Bama does them. Some great players on the floor for Bama no question, but they are not a team built to win championships.

The Vols are. The offense is struggling because these guys just don’t get to consistently play together. We have been at full strength 6 games this year….that’s it. If we can get healthy over the last part of the season….these guys are built to go deep in March. There are 5 regular season games left. You play at most 3 in the SECT, and it takes 6 to win a natty….so 14 more games at most left in the year. Let’s make the most of getting to watch another great Vols team brought to you by the Deacon.

March madness is a whole nother level. If we can't generate some offense, it'll be one more early exit

A lot of how the game goes is more who is reffing than who you're playing. Not saying refs are cheating just saying our defense was more conducive to the refs Bama game. Versus Missouri ZZ got into foul trouble and that plus mizzou hit a lot of Fortunate shots that no team hits on a normal clip and shot 54% from 3.

Last night was possibly the best single defensive game I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. Alabama is good. They’re long, athletic, and they can drive and shoot very well. Those guards (Sears, Bradley, and Quinerly) are absolutely elite penetrating into the teeth of a defense. We absolutely throttled nearly every attempt to take it to the basket and score. There really were no freebies. I’m really proud of these guys and their guts and grit and will to defend and win.

This is why I believe if we can make it through opening weekend and have a week basically of scouting for the sweet 16 game we can truly shutdown an opponent and get over the hump.
