Where is the best place to go Saturday night after the game?

From what I have heard and witnessed, whole in the wall bars can't survive on the strip anymore due to the ever increasing rent and the increase in underage busts since UT was named #1 party school in 2001-02.
well when all the small hole in the walls starting selling, and corporations came calling, property values were going up and it made it alot easier to sell out at that time...

and your point about the under age drinking is what did the Lap and Library in. their ID checks were liberal at best...i should know...but all the good places that were there...hawkeyes, the lap, the library, ivy's, spicy's, bud's etc...the strip just won't be the same. i just can't get fired up about going to Panera Bread for lunch then over to BW3's for drinks.

When a place called Cool Beans is considered a strength, you know the Strip has real problems.
yep...and it's been open for a while now....you'd think that it would hve had the same fate as bonkers.

How dare you exclude the Roman Room?

Especially when it used to be a Mr. Gatti's.

On an up-note: downtown is really turning around. I just saw on the news that they are auctioning off planned condos in the Candy Factory building. There has been a lot of condo development/renovation, which means young people moving to the city, which means revenue for downtown business, which will likely lead to continued commercial and cultural development. Market Square is a great example. It still has a ways to go, but not too far back there was nothing there but a closed-down Watson's and the Soup Kitchen.

That's good news. Development is good for my property value.

Downtown is a good place to go to have drinks..

BWW's is a good place to get drunk, then go to Charlie Pepper's for pitchers of PBR, then when it closes go to Longbranch because they're open til 3am and have cheap beer...like Schlitz, heh.

Had numerous beers at the Longbranch......they still have a piece of the goalpost from the 82 Bama game behind the bar.

i thought you lived in Miami?

and say what you will about Cool Beans, but it's a pretty good place to go to meet ladies, and have them be of age.

the dowtown developments are just a little out of my price range right now, but i would love to live in one of them.

Downtown grill and brewery on Gay st. is a good place...and while the strip isn't what it used to be....i'm sure just walking around cumberland ave. you'll be able to find an establishment that tickles your fancy...
take the bama fans to the longbranch and drop them off....

For you guys coming up from Alabama, who happen to be of a uhh, little different persuation, this is actually the name of Main Street in downtown Knoxville, so don't get any ideas.:)

Talking about liberal places...Spicy's. Had my first underage drink at Ut there. Didnt get carded. And they had great drink specials. Last time I went to that location it was some place with a madri gras theme and they totally redid the interior.

Questions for you who have been to Knoxvegas recently...is Hannah's still open? I think that place is fun for drinks pre-game, but mostly all college post-game. And has something replaced O'Charleys? That was my favorite pre-game place, but someone on here told me it closed.

Hannah's I believe is still open and there is one in the old city as well. The high rent building that used to be O'chucks is still empty. Rumors of a Hooters floated around for a little while but nothing is in the near future.

i would have to think that a Hooters there wouldn't be that great of an idea. there is one near West Town Mall, Merchants, and Maryville. they have Knoxville and Maryville covered.

i can't believe nothing has moved in there yet, but like you said, it has to have something to do with the cost to rent the space. of course the place would be a money making machine during football season, but after that, who knows. it's probably not worth any major restaurant chains time, especially beacuse the Chilli's across the street is ALWAYS busy.

Agreed about the Hooter thing. I thought that it would be occupied by now as well. That Chucks was a dump in the end. They had managers in and out of there almost on a monthly basis. I think that the building itself needs some work. The stip just aint what she used to be. No roman room, no electric wizard, no spiceys, no out of bounds, no Hawkeyes (animal hour)....sad

Depending on where you're staying, Kingston Alley near West Town mall has been a hot spot for several years now (for all ages). They have bands on the patio every weekend, plus, they have a ut pep rally kinda thing on Fridays. I haven't been there for one, so I don't know just how peppy they are.

Someone mentioned Toddy's Back Door Tavern earlier, and in case anyone opts for the "hole in the wall" scene that's not from around here, I thought I should point out that they moved the liqour store just down the street. The Back Door is still in the same place and a great bar IMO, but if you see Toddy's liquor store (new location), you won't find a bar above it.

Enjoy... GO VOLS!!!
