I was on the road, headed to a business meeting. When I arrived, we all gathered around a TV set and watched the news reports.

I'm older than most of you n this thread so far.... I was Customer Service Manager for a large automotive aftermarket co. in Mid TN. I was on the phone with an auto parts store manager in Daytona FL. in mid conversation he said "hold on, somethings wrong"....... he came back in a minute or so and said, I think the Shuttle just blew up, call me back.
I went downstairs to Plant Managers office....only TV. Walked in his office, while he was on phone, and turned on TV...... and saw what I hope I never see again. The boss ended his call and came to stand beside me in disbelief also. :(

I was at work that terrible day in 1986. Saw it on TV in the cafeteria when on break. Terrible thing to have happen.

I’m older than y’all but here goes. In Johnson City hospital delivery room, waiting to go into the delivery room to meet my youngest son.
“The rest of the story...“
My grandfather worked for NASA At space center on Merritt Island ,FL. He worked and we visited from late 50’s to mid 70’s, saw a lot and met many early space pioneers.
A female I grew up with(TN grad) in her career
Worked for NASA in Huntsville as an editor for
NASA’s education dept. she knew my family history and our love for the space program.
Months before 01/28/86 she sent our soon to be born son a picture 8x10, not a lithograph of picture of Challenger lifting off. Blast off great pic, Challenger’s external fuel tank was still painted white. Well it was hung in his nursery and the rest is history
Creepy, sad but great

I was building with Legos on a snow day in my family room. I had a Burger King chicken sandwich for lunch that day.

At the time, I was very interested in becoming an astronaut and had a couple of things published in Odyssey magazine. I had recently been to Kennedy Space
Center and dreamed of going to Space Camp. I had mission info actually posted on my bedroom wall.

It hit home in a big way.

Watching it live in music class. I just remember it being so quiet since it was such a shock

We used to watch quite a few things live back then. They'd roll in the TV and show whatever was happening

We were watching from Cocoa Beach. Seeing that trail split was something I'll never forget. Sad day.
