I'm pretty sure he'll get an opportunity as a free agent.

IMO lots of undrafted vols will get opportunites as free agents. k simon, riggs, r smith, possibly mithchell.

Jason Mitchell is a stretch... Not that I use the ESPN guide as my draft bible, but they have Jason Mitchell ranked the 60th OLB in the draft. I hope he got his degree.

Riggs is probably the 2nd-3rd best RB left on the board, along with Andre Hall from USF and Wendell Mathis from Fresno State. He could still go, he may because of the name

I was impressed that mitchell played as well as he did hurt and for so long. once he gets completely healed he will surprise some people. good speed.

You know, all I've heard during this draft was "character". If character has a lot to do with it, I don't think it's impossible for Mitchell to go and play as a free agent if he heals.

If playing an entire season of SEC football with a torn ACL (or was it MCL?) isn't character, I don't know what is.

I know, I think he has the potential to be a good NFL player. I think he will get a chance somewhere

I dont blame any NFL team for not picking up Riggs, he had a poor senior year when he was healthy and to top things off got injured, that didnt help his case any, however i think he will get signed as a free agent

Part of Gerald's problems as a senior came from our receivers not being able to catch a cold.

When they stack the whole defense in the box it's hard to cover real estate.

How can you say he had a poor 2005? His stats were 530 yards and three touchdowns on 127 carries which is a 4.2 ypc average. Those are for sure not as you say "poor stats." His being injured had to be a factor in not being drafted for sure. All I know is some NFL team is about to get the best free agent running back they ever signed.

Thanks for the memories "G" man and good luck.

What changed my opinion about riggs is it appeared Foster, a redshirt freshmen, was being more effective then Riggs was.

Other than ND he (Foster) had UK and Vandy and SC as the games. I'm not saying Foster isn't a good back I am just saying Gerald would have been drafted had he not been injured.

Foster 11 Games 183 carries for 916 yards, with a 4.6 avg.
Riggs 6 games 127 carries 556 with a 4.2 avg.

True.

but didnt both Riggs and Foster play against Bama and wasnt Foster more effective?

Also Riggs had easy games against UAB and Ole Miss, where he didnt put up any huge numbers, not like Foster did against Vandy (a tough game and a loss).

Also ND was a very good opponent, top 10. I stand by my initial coment.

Things I've heard from supposed friends of the family is that he was more interested in a higher degree and a career than playing football. The injuries just gave him the path he wanted. The implied statement is that he wasn't thrilled about following his dad's footsteps and he was given a soft way of breaking this to his dad.

Not sure if that's true but it came from some close friends of the family.

Stand by what you will, like I said I wasn't saying Foster was not a good back. I was only rebutting what was said that Riggs had a poor season...and had he not been injured he would have been drafted. Gerald was a quality back and so is Foster and his time will come.

Time will tell if he is the real deal. If he stays healthy he could be a bargain.
