I was pondering this question this morning after my workout while I was cooking breakfast. Honestly take off the orange shaded glasses and think about this question: assuming you had the greatest coach of all time, the best staff even (not just head coach), at which school could said coaching staff achieve the strongest and greatest dynasty at this time? Which program is the best geographically, has the greatest fan base and tradition, has the biggest pool of nearby top recruits and/or can easily pull recruits from all corners of the nation, etc. Or are there two or three programs you believe would be equal?

I truly believe Tennessee is in the top 10, hell even top 5 potentially. But unsure on the top spot. Your thoughts???

My first thought is either USC, Texas, or a school in Florida, due to the recruiting bases.

Of the schools that aren't currently achieving success:

1. Texas
2. Florida
3. Georgia
4. USC
5. Tennessee (lacks the in-state recruiting advantage, but has a massive and loyal fan base and close proximity to recruiting hotbeds)

Southern Cal.

With the right coach and staff, they can become elite again very quickly. California and the surrounding area has enough talent to keep several PAC12 schools stocked.

Yeah but their fan base isn't as die hard.

Texas and its not really close.

My first thoughts would be a toss up between USC and Texas, with potentially Ohio State or Notre Dame in the mix.

I understand the appeal of Texas, but before 2005, their last national championship came in 1968. For being centrally located in a football crazed state with virtually unlimited resources, one title every 37 years isn't very impressive. They're a successful program, but their national championship success doesn't indicate that they're dominant. They should be winning one once every couple of recruiting cycles. They're overrated from that standpoint.

Agree with this but might put tOSU 5th.

I don't know. Urban walked right in and immediately had them in the NC hunt. That's a clear indication of just how strong that program is. I know the conference is weak but they still take care of business.

Absolutely. It is picking nits. Location may even have something to do with it.

Also, Urban is getting way too much credit. People act like he walked in and took over a historically lowly program and somehow helped them rise. They were bad under a bad coach and lost 1 effin game the year before that. Alas...

With all due respect to where I'm posting, but Tennessee is nowhere close to the Top 5.

In no particular order Texas, USC, Ohio State, Alabama and UF/FSU/Miami round out the Top 5 imo.

I would agree with your choices other than Ohio State. But adding in UCLA to that mix instead. They are on the up and up and challenging USC for recruits right now and could end up with the premier program in LA for a while depending on who USC picks as a head coach.

Oregon should get mentioned.

Each school listed has ample recruiting footprint.

Oregon has Nike in its backyard.

UCLA's downside is that their academic requirements are too high. Same reason Stanford will hit a glass ceiling.
