Which is a better job: Tennessee or Auburn?

Fan base = UT

Stadium = UT

Tradition = UT (Volunteers and Smokey... vs ... Auburn War Eagles, Tigers, or ???)

College community = UT

Band support = UT

Football support facilities = UT

Player dorm = probably AUB (Ours needs to be replaced)

Salary = ?

Considering: salary, coach could bring assistant coaches of choice, and other perks being about equal = I would take UT by a landslide.

Of course, I'm VFL! GBO!

So, Tennessee is a better job than Georgia, Florida, LSU or Texas a&m?

Not at all what he was implying, but I'll go ahead and say yes, to all of them. As much as Florida likes to pride themselves on their football pedigree, it is very recent and short-lived. Tennessee's history and tradition is no match for Florida.

Is recruiting 150% easier in Florida? Absolutely. If a coach is lazy, then Florida is more attractive. Otherwise, no.

Georgia, LSU and A&M? By far. I almost had to laugh at the A&M mention.

Why do people jump on the "history" thing? Did history keep Mizzou from coming into historic Neyland Stadium and walking out with a win?

The history and tradition angle is overplayed and not very relevant. Go ask the top players in the country if they would rather play for:

Tennessee
Oregon
Alabama
Florida

I would say Florida and Oregon get their fair share of votes. When was the last time UT was relevant? It's been a while.

For football traditionalists who appreciate the history and rich heritage of football, it matters. I take pride in our history and love to see old photos, videos and stories about past Tennessee teams.

As with so many other things in life, today's "it's all about me" and "NOW" culture has taken over in many ways, but that doesn't mean it is the right thing. Heck, our failures to remember and learn our nation's history gets us in trouble even now.

I'd rather have the rich traditions of UT than 10 different Nike uniforms, but that's just me.

So Princeton should be a national power as well? After all they have the longest history in college football. Outside of a great stretch for about 15 years UT is a 0.68 winning team. UT isn't a 10-11 win team year in and out.

And, yes, we're in a "now" culture. The kids now put out their own recruiting highlights with YouTube, facebook, etc. If a kid is that much into himself he's going to go the "hottest" of most flashy team.

I love UT's traditions as much as the next guy, but I think it's over-rated when it comes to today's high school player's.

Auburn's recruiting base and athletic dorms are better. Apparently our dorms are first priority for hart but i think i read they havent been updated since late 80's? Eveything else UT.

Both schools will be looking for coaches, selling to the same candidates, probably with similar money and benefits. Which job is more attractive, since both schools have good facilities, money, big fan bases, etc.??

IMO you're asking the wrong crowd that question.

Recruiting base would be Auburn. In Alabama, essentially owns West Georgia, central location in the Southeast, and is close enough to Florida to be a consideration for the quality kids in that state as well.

Problem is you have to confront the biggest asshat booster in college football, a guy who almost cost Auburn its academic accreditation due to his penchant for interfering in that as well.

I would suspect as a coach you put a priority both on ability to recruit and upon the people you will be working for once on the job.

The recruiting aspect makes Auburn a top destination. The chain of command as it exists at Auburn takes away from that considerably.

As a whole, Tennessee is a better job.

As an impartial fan, I'd have to say it's about even. Auburn has great facilities and fan support. They also have high expectations, yet are in the same sub-conference as Bama (points off).

I do have to say that Auburn fans are generally more football educated than UT fans. Probably because more actually played the game growing up. UT has the stadium size factor. However, I was at the UGA/AU game Sat and the stadium was packed and loud. AU fans didn't really start to leave until UGA went up by 28. I'd definitely give the AU campus the nod, although UT has the better stadium setting.

I never heard any booing Sat., and I was on the sidelines. I don't think the history thing matters to a HC. They're much more in the "now". I think it's a little easier to recruit regionally at AU, nationally at UT.

If I was a coach right now, I'd probably pick UT. Simply because the program has been through so much that expectations are a little lower, and I wouldn't have to go against Saban head-to-head in recruiting and sub-conference the next couple of years. Really a toss-up though.
