Watching the ESPN 30 for 30 special and the comment was made "this was during a time, and it's hard to explain this to people today, but this was during a time when college football was more popular than pro football..... and it was better".

I would argue that college football is very much the more dominant force in football overall (especially for me). What do yall think? Which is more popular?

The NFL is way more popular. It might be close here in SEC country but in the rest of the country the NFL wins by a lot.

IMO college is more popular here in the South, but the NFL is by far the preference of the country as a whole. The main reason for this I think is that college teams are the longstanding institutions that are passed down from generation to generation here in the south, whereas most pro teams in the southeast have been here for about a generation or two at the most.

That's a very very good point

It's been said, but NFL tv ratings absolutely crush college football for the most part.

It is regional though, SEC territory the college game is a bit bigger, but in the rest of the country it's the NFL by leaps and bounds.

Though up until the early 60's, college football was more popular and even had superior quality games and players.

College still has the superior quality of games IMO. The NFL sucks.

I meant in terms of talent on the field. In the early days, the best college football teams would wipe the floor with the best pro teams. Not the case anymore.

True. I was really speaking terms of the excitement of watching the games. NFL games, particularly in September and October are boring and largely meaningless.

It's funny, when you live in a bubble, your perspective is jaded.

Unfortunately (IMO) pro football is MUCH bigger than college football

We have at least 3 major NFL teams that people follow where I live and only 1 about to be none college teams, unless you count Temple. Much more into pro than college in my town.

This is helpful. It's only for 2012, so mostly only playoff games and college bowl games. Still, I'd say that's comparable. But it's not comparable in TV ratings. NFL blows college away across the country.

From a personal standpoint, we have season tickets to UT and Titans games. Have had both for about 7-8 years now. I live MUCH closer to Nashville than Knoxville, so naturally if I had to give up one set...OF COURSE I'd give up the Titans tickets. No tickets to Neyland...ARE YOU CRAZY????? Guess you could say I prefer college slightly over the NFL.

In Southern states, it's easily college football. However, as mentioned, in every other region, the NFL wins in a landslide. I still love college a lot more, though.

I'm a much bigger college fan than NFL fan. Overall the NFL is way more popular though.

SEC is more popular....the south gets to watch them play in college, while the rest of the country has to wait until the players reach the NFL

To me it's just a rivalry thing. The bragging rights lie with college football IMO. A buddy of mine lives in Georgia, and if the Titan's beat the Falcons I don't talk trash, and vice-versa. But when UT plays UGA, then the trash talk begins.

College football is bigger in the Southeastern states and on par with the NFL in Texas. But everywhere else, the NFL is bigger.
