I may be exhibiting too much optimism, but I think the 2014 class is the best in history.

Might want to tap the brakes just a bit there. I am as excited as can be about what CBJ is up to, but give credit where credit is due.

Fulmer could recruit.

The 2002 & 2007 Vols classes on paper were ridiculous. And yes, we all know how they turned out.

2002 Vols:
5 5*, 16 4*, 2 3*
25 total recruits, #2 class
Rivals 2002 football recruiting rankings

2007 Vols:
5 5*, 11 4*, 15 3*
32 total recruits, #3 class
Rivals 2007 football recruiting rankings

Interesting conversation.

I would narrow it down to the recruiting classes that contributed to the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 rosters. Those were some pretty solid years of recruiting, if you look at it from a stand point of the number of players who went on to play professional ball with success. I tend to think that many of those teams under-performed a bit, with the 1998 team actually over-performing.

It has largely been down hill since then, with a slight peak on that downward trend around 2005.
