Because I have pride in being from the state of Tennessee, I root for the Titans. I also root for the team Peyton is playing for and whoever is playing the Cowboys.
I find it comical that there are so many so called Tennesseans who make fun of Tennessee's NFL team and/or anyone who roots for Peyton. But most of those folks are front runners who started rooting for the Cowboys or Steelers back when they were dominant teams.
Well, this is the reasoning behind so many Tennesseans who aren't Titan fans.
(1) Many, many people had a favorite NFL prior to the Titans moving to Nashville, so they keep that same loyalty.
I grew up a Steelers fan and stayed with them. My wife is a Cowboy fan and she stayed loyal to them.
(2) Some people recognize that the PAST Titans teams were not dedicated to winning and the people didn't want to support a team that was destined to an 8 - 8 record each and every year. Maybe a couple of times in a decade they will go better than 8 - 8 but the 10 year average is 8 - 8.
Some of my friends are tired of having to go to work on Mondays looking foolish because the Titans lost to a 3 win Jacksonville team, so they quit the Titans.
(3) Many, many people are transplants from Florida, Chicago, Detroit, New York, New Orleans etc. and they stay loyal to their former home town team.
Some of my co workers are transplants and still root for their former home town team. Giants, Saints, Lions, 49er's or Bears.....
As the younger people grow up and they have never known anything but the Titans, then they will probably stay a Titan fan. People who are born after 1998 when the Titans moved here and aren't transplants will stay Titans fans. You will see the fan base grow, once these kids grow up and once the Titans start to win again.
