Some of those Im not familiar with. I forgot about Call me the breeze and I agree. I never heard the original I love rock and roll so I just never consider it. Funny you mention it because the dude that co wrote it died of the virus recently.

Probably is some stuff that's covers that I didn't know were and probably a bunc you'd be surprised I'd never even heard of...like Wide Spread Panic, I know nothing about them. Same with Pearl Jam, I couldn't name one song by them.

There are some other covers I do like, just not as much as the original. I like Aerosmith version of Come together, but I like Gary Clark Jr version better. I hate Metallica's cover of Turn the Page.

Anyway, when I said I enjoyed hating on covers I just meant I enjoy hating on ones I don't like. Lol.

They did, but I like Orbison's and The Kinks better.

My dad was a big fan of Smokin in the boys room by Brownsville Station and because of that I'm kinda partial to it, but I love Motley Crews version.

Obviously this started with the OP, what did you think of it?

Meh. Some songs lend themselves to being covered. Really nothing original here.

I know it seems like sacrilege but I can just about convince myself that SRV's Voodoo Child is at least as good, if not better, than Hendrix.

Cash's cover of NIN's Hurt is pretty awesome. If you haven't seen the video watch it and realize June died very shortly after and Johnny following a few months later. It can almost be hard watch.

I also really like Disturbed's Sound of Silence cover. If you listen to the original the lyrics themselves are much darker than the nice vocal harmony might suggest. The cover, to my mind at least, has the vocals better match what the words are actually saying.

Disturbs version is very good.

Cash could sing Mary little lamb and it would be amazing.

Funny story.

I went to school with Cashs grand daughter when I was in elementary. When he would come visit he would sit at the table and every teacher and adult would freak out like he was royalty. I had no idea who he was. I was not into music yet and all I knew was he was her grandpa and liked to wear alot of black. I probably had lunch with him a dozen times and he was always very nice.

It was only years later I learned who he was. Life is very weird.

Not better IMO.

I didn't know Hurt was a cover for several years. Ive never listened to the original, on purpose. First time I heard it June had already died and it made an impression on me. Best left alone.

I've never heard of Disturb or the cover of Silence, but will later today.

There's one song that if I heard it I could tell you it was them, but I can't tell you which one it is.

Meh, just never cared for them.

I always thought Wide Spread Panic’s cover of ‘Traveling Light’ by JJ Cale surpassed the original. Same goes for Skynard’s cover of Call me the Breeze, also by Cale.

Black Crowe’s Hard to Handle was a worthy cover.
Pearl Jam’s “Last Kiss” is an exceptional cover.
Soft Cell’s, “Tainted Love” as a cover. I bet 99% didn’t know that.

Joan Jett’s, “I love Rockin Roll” was also a cover.

A song that I cover, is “What’s so Funny ‘bout Peace, Love and Understanding.” I played it for years without realizing Elvis Costello didn’t write it.

I bet there are a bunch you like and aren’t aware they are even covers.

Until about ten years ago, Last Kiss was PJ's worst recorded song.

The chorus still makes me cringe with how cheesy it is.

Emiliana Torrini’s cover of White Rabbit from the Sucker Punch soundtrack is the best.

Jimi Hendrix "Wild Thing"
Amy Winehouse "Valerie"
Robert Palmer "Mercy Mercy Me", but I still like Marvin Gaye"s version of course.
Eddie Money "You've Really got a hold on me"
