He is number 2.

But lsu had like 38 scholarship players when kelly showed up. Year one, probably winning the west, number three in the SEC, top 10. They were wondering if they would even make a bowl game.

I just couldn't give it to him with that roster. I'd love to see what Smart could do at a Auburn or Ole Miss type team where they have respectable rosters , but not loaded top to bottom with NFL players.

Smart had a loaded team and has been more than a TD favorite in every game.

Oh I don’t disagree. I’m just saying he’s the only other one that could be considered imo. Kelly has been much better than I thought he would be for lsu but two losses.

LSU is the 8th most talented team in CFB, and 3rd in the SEC per the talent composite. Quite a bit better than Tennessee on both counts. Plus Heupel made him look a fool in his own building. No way to seriously claim Kelly over Heupel for CotY.

I don’t believe Heupel is SEC coach of the year….. I believe he’s both SEC coach if of the year and NCAA coach of the year.
