Who could we hire if we were looking for coach now?

I would have turned in my Vol card if I had to watch this guy coach us, especially after enduring the 3 idiots prior.
I can not turn my Vol card in. It is in my blood. Presidents of the university are on both sides of my family. However, If I had to endure Mullen after my personal experience with him, I would just turn all of college football off period. I would pull for the Vols like I do in all of the other sports, but when it came to football I would just have to turn it off. Mullen is a tool. He is just smart enough to get there, but does not know how to finish the job. Take a long look at his coaching record. He should be coaching in the MAC, WAC, CUSA, or D1AA somewhere. If he were there he would probably be really successful. Maybe not, what do I know. I just freaking can not stand the jerk and hope he has to get coffee for Satan, excuse me, Saban for the next several years.

Someone in the basketball forum got ratioed for saying Vols fans were sensitive. And here we have a thread of Vols fans melting down over a speculative question during the week of a game vs a 2-8 opponent. You can't make it up lol.

The only solace I've taken in the last 14 years of UT failure is the knowledge that it couldn't have happened to a dumber fan base.

Exactly one year ago we were in Beldar/JG/PF hell. Now we're in SO much of a better place....in so many places- not just football.

Tis the season for blessing-counting imo...

Why is everyone roasting OP? He’s just asking a “food for thought” question. Some of y’all just like to jump all over people to try and be “witty”… just answer the question or move on.

OP… in my opinion, if we were in that position we’d be taking a hard look at Billy Napier. Maybe Chadwell too, but I get the feeling Chadwell is going to take a position at a lower level P5 team like Franklin did and give the big boys fits.

I don’t think we would look at Mullen like we did last time.
Napier wasn’t coming last year, he wouldn’t be taking it this year either.

I just wonder who we could have hired if we had an opening this year instead of last year. More difficult market? Would our current coach be available considering ncaa issues? There sure are a lot of good to great jobs available. God, the thought that Fulmer might still be making the hire. What a nightmare.
I’m good with Coach Heupel, it was destiny. We just had to wipe the slate clean and get Fulmers involvement eradicated. Horrible AD with horrible coaching hire . His hire was worse than hiring Dooley. Pruitt sucked.

Billy Napier or Jamey Chadwell, IMO

I think LSU has the pick of the litter and will hire Dave Aranda. Florida misses on some of their top targets and hires Billy Napier. Campbell will overplay his hand and end up staying at Iowa State because deep down he's scared of the SEC and big-time recruiting. Think he'll eventually end up in the NFL. USC either gets Mario Crisobal or settles for Kalani Sitake. I think Luke Fickell will wait for a Big 10 job to open up.

Good point on Fickell. He’s probably more than willing to sit in place until Ohio State opens up.

It would suck hiring him at a big school you are a fan of. You know, without a doubt, the second Ohio State comes calling he’s gone.

Be much worse trying to hire now.

That would mean firings happen after investigation completed by UT. Still have to wait on NCAA to do their thing. Likely be someone less than Heupel and not sure if White would take job. Although, the contract given Danny hard to beat.

Why are you are talking about hiring coaches and bemoaning the past. Instead of being happy we have a good staff and head coach. Try to enjoy and watch the rest of the college world scrambling for coaches for a change. GBO!

Maybe this could be the first in a new series of threads

-If we were looking for a new color what would it be?
-If we were looking for a new mascot, what would it be?
-If we were looking for a new nickname, what would it be?
-If we were looking for a new city, what would it be?
