Who do we expect to sign out of HS this year?

Yep. I think that period is considered closed, not sure when the cut off is to sign HS players.

I think I'm probably out of touch.
It appears that HS seniors sign with a school then they can leave after each year.
Reasons? Not getting enough playing time; play for a better team; Not compatible with teammates or coach; homesick; romance; academic(major not offered) or opportunity to go to Harvard; other.
Is NIL money considerable in womens basketball?

Good enough to keep Rickea around. Wide variance on NIL deals.
They only get one transfer for undergrads, they have to sit a year for subsequent transfers. Graduate students are the exception and are free to transfer regardless.

Last night LSU racked up the top highschool prospects in the East/West game.
A 6'5" highly mobile post from Webb School in Knoxville was in the LSU group already signed.
UConn and South Carolina have signed fantastic high schoolers very fast and scoring from every distance.
Apparently University of Tennessee isn't in the running for top highschool selections this year.

Not Webb HS in Knoxville. Xnay with that rumor mongering. It’s The Webb School, south of Murfreesboro. 701CC41B-3FB6-42BA-B0EF-85006777B689.jpeg
Wish I knew more about how this school rose to prominence as a women’s bb school. Afraid I’ve got an idea.

I don't see anything. Am I just missing it?
The list for 2024 is on the 2024 recruiting thread. We have no idea if any of those players are leaning to signing with Tennessee. It is a must we get at least a couple of them. 2023 is over mostly we may be looking at a couple of foreign players or more likely players with a lot of eligibility left in the portal. You get players with two or three years to play out of the portal that can certain diminish to some degree not getting any 2023 high schoolers.

The 2023 list does serve as a place for portal contacts we recruited.

Those relationships weren't being built. You don't just pop in on these players and get commitments with them in 1-2 years. Unless you can offer a lot in terms of NIL. Which is new territory. These things take time. Albeit there is no excuse for what's going on with HS recruiting I'll admit.

Hopefully, 2024 will move us in the right direction. Very excited about Nylah Brooks and how bought in she already is to the program. Until then we need to hit the portal hard.

I just read an article that says Tennessee Lady Vols have NO incoming recruiting class. How and why is this? I would think people would be fired. Does anyone know what happened?

Here are Lady Vols basketball's biggest needs to address in the transfer portal
The reason we have no class we decided to only go after top 30 players and in the end four that we thought we had went other places. Two went to LSU reportedly for more NIL money. Another went on a visit to Texas and committed to them. The other two we were after the most ended up at UConn. We might have tried to go to big, but I think it was because of the portal. Now we need to get the best players with two to three years eligibility and all will be fine.

I also really thought we were going to get S’Mya Nichols, who’s headed to Kansas (a program on the rise who might be about to win the WNIT).

Lacey Goldwire was at Tennessee and left in 2021 for Arkansas. How does that affect this years recruiting? Still, how does Tennessee have no recruiting class? This makes no sense to me.
Goldwire leaving was coincidental. What affected this years recruiting was the plunge into the unknown when NIL and the portal happened at the same time. Everyone is making it up as they go along. Espec bc NIL was thrown out there with little or no guidance, it's going to take a few cycles to figure out how it all works.

However, if it happens again, it's a problem.

Transfer portal is where the recruiting action is. I think I read all the elite 8 teams except 1 had at least one starter from the portal. There are already 300 players in the portal and last year had about 1300. Many players that do very well at lower tiered schools want to transfer to the prestigious basketball schools for more recognition, NIL, etc.. Coaches prefer a portal player that has shown what they can do at the college level instead of hoping a high school recruit will develope.
Last year how many did we get from the portal that saw quite a bit of playing time—4???

Thank you for the explanation. This just brings up another question. I mainly follow Vols Football recruiting, not really any other sports. It appears to me that Football is doing great with respect to NIL due to Spire's involvement. I seem to remember losing Walter Nolan to Texas A&M. He was quoted saying if were just about the NIL money, he would have committed to Tennessee. Is Spire not involved with other UT Sports, particularly Lady's Basketball?

Again, thanks to everyone for your replies. Y'all are really getting me up to speed on what is going on.

How do we not get a good player from the home state?
She's not "from" Tennessee. She's also lived in Texas, Dominican Republic, NYC, NJ and CT. She only spent like 1 year in HS at The Webb School. She's no different from Cardoso playing for Hamilton Heights but not really having any ties to the state.

In this particular case I’m pretty sure it boiled down to NIL, primarily. Can’t count out Mulkey’s and Bayou Barbie’s powers of persuasion. Pretty sure the two from Bell Buckle were Rosario and a point guard who’s name escapes me (Velez). Package deal that may have hurt Vols chances.
