I wonder if a well-known coordinator like Chad Morris or Pat Narduzzi would take the job? I doubt it.. seems like there's nowhere to go but down at Vanderbilt right now. Then again... being a lower-level SEC team opens the door for a lot of upsets, which make coaches look good. Therefore, Vandy is a great opportunity for someone who's great with X's and O's.

If I'm Vanderbilt, I'd ride my strength (defense) and hire a promising DC who's looking for an opportunity move up to head coach... Someone like Pat Narduzzi, Justin Wilcox, Kirby Smart, Jeremy Pruitt, or Bud Foster.

I doubt they can find someone to come in and continue the miracles that Franklin has performed. I think they drop back to the bottom of the SEC for another 100 years.

None of those guys would take the job.

I certainly would not if I were them.. but I can't think of an upcoming defensive mind that isn't famous yet. Bronco Mendenhall? Nah.. he seems to have too much promise.

You'd have to be extremely confident in your ability to out-coach your opponents to take the Vandy job. If you aren't one of the best X's and O's guys in the country, you don't stand at sustaining the level of competitiveness that Franklin has built.

My List:

1) Derek Dooley
2) Lane Kiffin
3) Ron Zook
4) Wade Houston

you might laugh, but seriously Lane Kiffin would be a very good Offensive mind and has connections in the SouthEast. Vandy could do worse than Coach K.. Other guys on the list are just jokes, but Kiffin could work his system there to keep Vandy somewhat competitive in the middle of the
SEC East.

As we get closer to NSD, the list of prospective coaches will get smaller and smaller. In addition, some of their current recruits will probably jump ship as they committed to Franklin rather than Vandy.

How about Wade Phillips? Just got fired as a defensive coordinator... If he isn't offered another DC position, he might be interested in Vandy. But surely he will get an NFL offer.

If Vandy is even remotely serious about continuing any momentum Franklin set up, they won't even consider Phillips.

Could you really see Vandy hiring that guy? I mean... Come on.

Honestly, I can. He wins a lot of games, he'd be a household name, and he usually has an exciting offense which MIGHT draw more fans to games. Hiring a recognizable coach like him could help save recruiting this close to NSD.

If Vandy would pay Franklin supposedly 3mil a yr, they certainly would pay him enough to leave W Ky.

Just keep him away from sorority row, and the women's athletic dept.
