Who does Memphis get?

Nolan Richardson's name has came up big time this AM. also.
This morning was even more reason why I have a strong dislike for Sports56. The way Wolo and Stats had him on the radio and basically having a pre-interview was just pathetic.

Memphis will hire Gillispie. You heard it here first.
Tiger fans would riot.

Floyd, Miller and Coach Kennedy are at the top of my list. (in no order)
I can go with that list.

Word from credible source on the streets of Memphis is that it will be one of two people:

1. Bruce Pearl-who has an offer on the table and 24 hours to accept

2. Bobby Knight-who flew into Wilson Air at Memphis International and interviewed with Memphis AD after press conference today.

Of these 3 the only one should be Miller. My list would be Pearl, Miller, and Pastner( you can underpay and keep some recruits).

I really like J. Pastner alot and would love to have him, but I think he's gone with Cal for good.

Pearl isn't dumb enough to leave UT for Memphis, possibly Boston College.

Bobby Knight would need his son with him, I think Pat Knight would come if it werent an April Fools Joke.

Billy Clyde to Texas Tech?

Bob Knight interviewing? Yeah, and Scrooge McDuck interviewed with Obama about being the Fed chief.

I can see the second piece in a figurative sense...but only if Mr. McDuck owes substantial back taxes.

Pastner could be had for $1.5 million. He makes $200K now. I'd much rather have a recruiter who is learning to coach than a coach who is learning to recruit. Spent part of evening with Pastner in KC and he is impressive. Plus, he recruited some of the kids.

Your credible sources aren't credible. At all.

It was on the local news wmc 5, nbc affiliate that he was in town and interviewed.

I also got it from the person who told me Cal was going to get the job before anyone had mentioned it. I wouldn't just post this stuff if I didn't have a good reason to believe. I was just as shocked as you.

I agree. I guess it could be done and I have talked to him a couple of times, very classy guy. I just don't think the avg. Memphis fan will be happy with the hire, they want a "wow" name.

RC said today that they really wanted someone with head coaching experience.

And the boosters are so pissed at Cal they will not hire anyone associated with him, and that anger may be the real motivation behind pursuing Pearl.

You honestly believe that Bob Knight would interview for a job? Also, you actually think some local station would beat ESPN to the story if he did?

I have been following the Cal thing pretty close. ESPN has been behind on everything. Memphis hardly exists to them.

About 1000 people work in and around Wilson Air. No one like Bobby Knight could get through there without being spotted, and no one in Memphis can keep a secret.

I believe Bob Knight wants 1000 wins, and that he probably thinks it won't be hard to get in CUSA.

Yes. They beat ESPN and national news on all details of the Cal saga. Calkins actually told Dan Patrick today that Memphis offered more money than UK. He was shocked. All stuff on ESPN scroller was approximately 12-24 hours behind what was being reported in Memphis.

Jeff Goodman (FOX Sports) and Gary Parrish (CBS Sports) seem to be one of the first with reports on Memphis...most of the time anyway.
