Who else misses Rodney Garner about now?

I've read all the posts, but when he was on staff, I always heard from pretty reliable sources that he was divisive and he had the players thinking pros a little early.

It is ironic because his departure seemed to cure none of these ailments, but my sources were pretty darn close to the program at that time.

All the players staying home in Georgia has a lot more to do with Richt than anything else. You have to keep in mind just how inept Goff was and just how abrasive Donnan was.

Some Dawgs think Garner is on his way out. With all of the vacancies in the Pros and a few in college, the thought is he's capped off a good year yet again and he's looking for a new challenge. So perhaps Trooper could be a replacement?

Goff's having a grand old time on the farm and has dreams of running for Congress.

I have to give Goff credit. He's the happiest ex-coach that got fired that I've ever seen.

...but Congress???

We've recruited well since Garner left, usually top ten classes. (Last year #1) so recruiting hasn't been our problem. My Auburn friends tell me that he skates on thin ice as far as obeying NCAA rules and sooner or later he will bring an NCAA investigation upon the institution he's employed by.

I heard that Richt says there are ethical considerations. I don't know if he is speaking personally or from a rules point of view. Supposedly Garner and Trooper are close friends and Garner really wants him at UGA. From what I hear the UGA boosters pay a significant part of Garner's salary. Do the UT boosters do that for any of our coaches?

If that is true then UGA is violating NCAA rules and I think I'll make a call Thursday. Booster are not allowed to supplament an asst coach's salary.

Garner left because of his wife wanting to get closer to home.

Are you sure you want to start another Fulmer/Bama episode? :eek:lol:

Gerald Riggs was never going anywhere.

Oh how wrong you are my friend. This is first hand knowledge, not what I heard or think. Gerald was on his way to transfer out. Gerald felt that he was a better back than Cedric Houston and that he wasn't gettting his fair share of reps. Trooper came in and informed the backs that everyone has a clean slate and he was going to evaluate each player by practices and game film.

Now I have this question, what in the heck happened to Jabari Davis? Where did he go?

Both parties have tried their best to get him to run for something. The GOP has been trying to get him to run against Sanford Bishop in SW GA. Evidently no school or pro team has a desire to hire him so all he has is inflated ego talk of running for office. I'm thinking dog catcher would make a nice start unless the thought of that would be too strange for him.

When I was in college I was a volunteer for Saxby Chambliss in his first two elections for the US House. Ray used to come to a lot of Saxby's fundraisers. He was a pretty nice guy as I recall. Sort of a middle-aged frat boy (no insult intended since I am often accused of being one myself). I always got the impression that he is a republican.

That was a portion of the reason. Fulmer also felt Rodney got too much credit. Phil wasn't heartbroken that he left. He should have been, but he wasn't.

You and I need to talk some off-board about Saxby. Goff has done some fundraisers for Dems as well. I guess as he did in coaching, he tries too hard to make ALL happy and doesn't do what is needed to get the job done right.

His dad never was going to let him transfer. Believe it. It was all talk.

Rumors are there will be a reorganization of the Offensive coaching staff in Athens. There could be room to add a coach after titles shuffle around. This could be why the talk of Trooper at UGA is popping up.

I think the recruiting coordinator position is overrated.

All it takes to recruit well is to win, or make the recruits believe you will win. I'm sure USC and Texas will have little trouble recruiting again this year.

But if you have poor coaching to offer the recruits, or if your team has consistently underachieved, it doesnt matter who the recruiting coordinator is, you will not recruit well.

Richt needs to hire an OC in the worst way.

If they keep it in the family, there's a push to make my buddy Bobo the OC. That leaves QB coach open which rumors are that the reshuffling will fill that.

Do you think Richt will relinquish the playcalling though? I don't think it will happen. As humble as he appears, I think Richt likes the roll of the smart guy.

He lets his coaches develop the players but he is the playcalling mofo. That's why I could see Bobo being an OC. A guy who already knows the system and doesn't have the ego going in of trying to run the show on Offense. Anyone else that comes in wants more control.

Maybe I need to have a live chat session with Gerald on here and let him explain it to you all.

The difference between him wanting to go somewhere else and his dad letting him is entirely different.
Maybe he should have cause he got showed up by a Freshman!

Gerald didn't get showed up, he was injured and Arian took advantage of the situation by shining. Gerald started the season with a big huge red X on his chest, with heisman talk, so of course he was targetd every game. Now I think he did great, especially with the ineffectiveness of our WR's. Arian flew under the radar, not taking anything from him, but I think it was another case of Adrian Peterson in his first year at Oklahoma. I hope that he will be able to continue his success this year, this year will be a true test for Arian.

Comparing Arian Foster to Adrian Peterson is like comparing a Krystal burger to Filet Mignon.
