Who would you select for coach of the year?

Houston's Art Briles,
Michigan's Lloyd Carr,
Wake Forest's Jim Grobe,
Hawaii's June Jones,
BYU's Bronco Mendenhall,
Houston Nutt of Arkansas,
Boise State's Chris Petersen
Oklahoma's Bob Stoops.

I would say it is prett close between Shiano and Grobe...

I have Shiano with the edge, and if Rutgers beats WVU Shiano gets it for sure. The big east is stronger than the ACC this year.

I would say Stoops. What he has done with losing his Starting QB and was going to be Heisman Trophy Winner is remarkable.

If Rutgers wins on Saturday and makes the BCS, it's Schiano hands down.

If Wake goes to the BCS, it's Grobe hands down.

If they both go, they should BOTH get it.

Even the love affair with Petterson wouldn't have gotton him any higher than third after they lost the two games early on.

Where is Tressel??? He lost almost an entire defense and ran the table. Also he stayed at #1 the ENTIRE SEASON. I say that in itself deserves coach of the year.

Staying number 1 the entire season only proves you did what you were supposed to. Great coach, but this was widely expected.

Really??? I heard and even stated myself that I thought Ohio State was a 2 loss team. When you replace 6 outta seven up front, that takes a helluva coach to get them where they should be on the field.

They had 3 tough games. Michigan was very difficult. Texas was never the second best team in the nation. Penn State can play good or bad on any given day. They played OSU tough though.

Even then, OSU was better than all of those teams. OSU hasn't overachieved in any way, and in my mind, a coach has to overachieve by a lot to win the award.

When do they announce the winner?

Be pretty tough to argue with a guy that leads his team to an undefeated national championship season, if Ohio State does in fact win it.

You have to have Schiano on there.

I could have coached the team and gone 11-1.

No, you couldn't.

Ok, maybe not, but 10-2... :)

Michigan and Texas.

Seriously, 100 of the D1-a coaches could have done it. OSU didn't come well prepared for PSU which is part of why PSU was in the game so long (PSU did play well though). OSU's athleticism took over at the end.

I'm just saying you can make a case for Tressel if they go undefeated. Who else did that?

Didn't Fulmer win CotY after the 1998 season? Should he not have won it because the team was extremely talented? A better question, why were the 1998 UT and 2006 tOSU teams as talented as they were?

That is a good point, but OSU has always been talented. They were talented with Cooper, but there was one game they couldn't win. Tressel can win that game, but you can't give him COTY for that.

Fulmer's team actually rose in the rankings.

OSU started #1 for a reason. They were already the best team. Shiano has his team on the verge of the BCS. That is unbelievable. OSU if you told me they would be in Glendale, I wouldn't have been surprised. If you said Rutgers would play WVU for a BCS bid, I would s*** my pants.

I wouldn't either... but I would if he wins that game and the NCG. :)

Maybe it was just me, but I didn't expect Ohio State to remain #1 with as much as they lost on defense. Someone did a good job up there.
