from powerlineblog.com (yes, a conservative blog, but I don't read any liberal blogs because they tend to lower my IQ)

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2008/10/021856.php

I've read recent reports of the Obama campaign receiving donations from dubious names and foreign locales and it got me wondering: How is this possible?

I run a small Internet business and when I process credit cards I'm required to make sure the name on the card exactly matches the name of the customer making the purchase. Also, the purchaser's address must match that of the cardholders. If these don't match, then the payment isn't approved. Period. So how is it possible that the Obama campaign could receive donations from fictional people and places? Well, I decided to do a little experiment. I went to the Obama campaign website and entered the following:

Name: John Galt
Address: 1957 Ayn Rand Lane
City: Galts Gulch
State: CO
Zip: 99999

Then I checked the box next to $15 and entered my actual credit card number and expiration date (it didn't ask for the 3-didgit code on the back of the card) and it took me to the next page and... "Your donation has been processed. Thank you for your generous gift."

This simply should not, and could not, happen in any business or any campaign that is honestly trying to vet it's donors. Also, I don't see how this could possibly happen without the collusion of the credit card companies. They simply wouldn't allow any business to process, potentially, hundreds of millions in credit card transactions where the name on the card doesn't match the purchasers name.

This guy tried the same thing at the McCain website and his donation was refused.

Thoughts? (TradeMark borrowed from OE without his permission, but since he wrecked his cruiser, he can't come get me)

1. Not surprising, just look at his history and philosophies.
2. Obama supporters will defend him somehow.

1. Can McCain receive donations or is this old news?

2. Good for Obama, so yes allvol, take that as defense of Obama.

Besides, I'm sure Obama and McCain set their own websites up. "Hey Michelle, come in the kitchen, I'm setting this site up and I was wondering.......do you think I should ask for that 3-digit security code on credit cards?".

Thank you. Hey, on a serious note for a second, I saw your post in another forum and congrats on the new addition to your family.

Thanks man. Glad you realize this is all in good fun. Now clock back in and get back to being an American hating socialist Obama man.

No problem. This is one big family in the political forum. We can talk about each other but when an outsider says something we band together. :)

I think lost to most of the oBAMA supporters is "Who is John Galt?":dunno:

Hint: No relation to Willie.

But seriously, read the book. We may be heading that way.

so, somebody want to tell me why people are questioning Obama and not McCain?

Because, we shouldn't let facts get in the way of an inspiring story how a guy named John Gault donated $15 to a guy he probably won't vote for.

I don't think you guys get it... John Galt is a FICTIONAL character. His name DOES NOT match the name on the credit card used... hence the reason the McCain site refused the transaction. Interestingly, the Obama site didn't care.

This is how folks have been getting around the donation restrictions. There is no telling how much of Obama's money has come from 1) people donating more than their allowed amount and 2) foreign powers doing some lobbying.

I think MG left out a little extra explanation on this

I went back to the Obama site and made three additional donations using the names Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Bill Ayers, all with different addresses. All the transactions went through using the same credit card. I saved screenshots of the transactions.

I'm amazed that both men would lament our credit culture and complain that credit cards are evil, yet neither has any problem taking blind credit card donations.

I get it, John McCain has a higher percentage (not to mention higher actual dollar amount) of his funds for which he has provided no disclosure than does Barack Obama.

Fictional, yet prophetic.

Rand's characters have a way of sticking with her readers, which is probably why most leftist, socialist have no idea of "who is John Galt?"

Also, as we are using great literature to discuss the current situation, always remember: "Two legs bad. Four legs good."

I assure you, it isn't lost on me. When you hate Ayn Rand as much as I do, you tend to notice things like that.
