Who is worse Zo or Buzz

Buzz was really bad, but Zo is probably more frustrating. At least with Peterson you knew we were going to suck; with Martin he does just enough to get your hopes up, then destroys them over and over and over again.

I think a more appropriate comparison is Kevin O'Neill. Same brand of basketball. Both O'Neill and Martin are supposedly great defensive coaches which is code for "don't know crap about offense and holding the ball for most of the shot clock is good defense." I honestly don't know how KO got another job in college. While I know O'Neill's record at UT was worse than Martin's, I see a lot of similarities in their styles and ability to coach. Biggest difference was that O'Neill was a prick being loud and boisterous; Martin is the anti-prick being quite spoken with no emotion (does he even care?).

We have a history of having not so good basketball coaches at UT. Bruce brought more excitement and success to the program than any coach we have had in many years.

O'Neill was an A list recruiter as an assistant every school he was at. When he was here it showed. What he left Jerry Green was Final Four talent. Had a decent coach walked into that we could have cut down nets.

Yes and I believe Buzz made it to the big dance once in his career. [not with the vols]

He's made it once, at App. St. But I'm not sure what that has to do with judging their coaching here. Peterson had 2 losing seasons and only 1 decent season. Basically Martin's 3 seasons have all been as good or better than Peterson's 1 decent season, and let's not act like Peterson didn't have talent.

Peterson is also doing a bang up job at UNC Wilmington right now; in his fourth year he's now 41-78 there, including an awesome 8-21 this season.

Buzz had CJ Watson, Chris Lofton, and Jajuan Smith his last year and failed to even go to the NIT, much less the NCAA, or have an overall winning record. Martin may be underachieving but it's almost impossible to suck as badly as Buzz and Wade did.

LOL...u r crazy using a 2 ppg walk on freshman as a reason a coach should make the tournament.

Exactly right. I do think had Buzz not had to kick Elgrace Wilborn off the team his last year for breaking Brandon Crumps jaw he would have had another winning season but not NCAA worthy imo.

I am pretty sure that if the school had not kicked out Harris Walker and Terrance Woods in Buzz's first year, he would have made the tournament. If I recall our guard play was terrible. Kind of bad luck, but Buzz's terrible coaching prevailed. It all worked out getting Pearl.

Yeah Terrence Woods was a 3 point marksman. Im wanting to say hed led nation in 3 point percentage at Florida A&M after getting booted. As for Harris Walker had as quick a crossover as Tim Hardaway or Allen Iverson.

Martin is probably better because everyone thought Buzz had bad players. Then Pearl comes in and wins over 20 with them and goes to the NCAA. I am certain he could do it with this group also. I know Buzz couldn't win with this group still to be determined if Martin can eek out an NCAA bid.

Both Buzz and Cuonzo have the ability to snatch sure defeat from the jaws of victory. I never thought I'd see another Vol coach as consistent at losing close games as Buzz, but Clueless Cuonzo is! Call it a photo finish.

Nice synopsis from a fellow Dandridger.

Buzz also had Mcfadgon who many thought was a pro prospect. He was 4th in scoring that year in the SEC.
