Who is your pick to be the National Champions in the 2013-2014 basketball season?

UK only considers IU, UNC, Kansas, Duke, and the 1998 Chicago Bulls to be their rivals.

I'm just glad they allowed lowly UF to win a couple national titles in their sport. :)

Duke and Kansas are not rivals in the least. UF would be more of a rival than those two schools.

Hey, Brian, I know Lawrence was joking around, but do you consider UNC a natural rival to UK? Speaking for myself, I consider you all a rival along the likes of NC State, Maryland (well, maybe not anymore since they're leaving us), and yes, even Duke. UNC and UK just seems so natural to me. That's why I love that December game so much, and I was saddened it didn't happen this past year. Could have been anyone's game this past year.

Yes even Duke? How is Duke an afterthought in a rivalry with UNC?

You're right though. this past year's game versus UK would've been a gem. College basketball fans missed out on a December Classic this season.

I do consider UNC a rival. The yearly game has become very entertaining, and always competitive.

Dean Smith broke our hearts in '77 with that Four Corners stuff in the Elite 8. They got a lead and just held the ball. Still amazing that they scored in the 70s after holding the ball so long.

Gonna go with Louisville; it'll nicely cap off the basketball-football-basketball national title trifecta.

Maybe I should have phrased it differently. That comment was meant to suggest that I thought UNC/UK was a rivalry along the likes of the UNC/Duke rivalry, although I wouldn't go that far. Poor wording on my part.

Yeah, I think the Four Corners made or broke many people even in North Carolina. I know people that still today say that that offense was what made them NC State or Duke fans rather than Carolina.

it was a killer for college basketball. Get a lead and sit on it.

Kentucky actually pulled back into the game and outscored UNC in the second half, UNC hit their freethrows in the closing minute to seal it.

Thanks for the link. I know this isn't the point of the thread, but good conversation should be allowed to flourish. You may be aware of it already, but there is a great page about the UNC v. UK rivalry. I think it's made by Kentucky fans, but it is fairly balanced, albeit a little bit dated now.

The rivalry page is pretty neat. Thanks for linking it in.

I had Louisville as a lock but now they might get some competition from Kansas.

Come on...there are quite a few teams that can compete with Louisville next year. Not just KU because they got the number one player.

Couldn't agree more, as a fan of a team who got the #1 player it doesent guarantee you anything. In fact, in my opinion, Barnes never did anything spectacular while at Carolina.

Sarcasm detected.

Tell me though, outside of hitting some big shots. Will anyone remember Barnes a few years down the road? Probably not.

Haha I actually didn't mean that sarcastically (reading it back now I could see that is confusing) I think both of those players underwhelmed in college. Barnes is contributing on the Warriors now, we'll see if Shabazz can.

I've been rather mum on the subject up to this point, because this class speaks for itself. The undefeated talk is silly, but this Kentucky team is seriously going to kick faces in next season. Because it is early in the season and at Carolina, UNC is likely to take home the W. If they meet in the tournament, I'll lay down a fiddy spot that Carolina gets run by double digits.

Louisville, as much as it pains me to say, can beat UK straight up in December and the tourney.

Kansas has the talent, barring one of Bill Self's Northern Iowa/Bucknell/Bradley moments.

Barring any injuries I like the Cats again. #homer, #bluegoggles, etc etc etc

Louisville is gonna have a heap of trouble in the backcourt if Ware doesn't get back and if Russ doesn't play consistent. He can score any game, but he has to be efficient if they're gonna repeat. I wouldn't be surprised if Russ doesn't win player of the year next year. If he plays like he did in the tourney, Louisville routs 99% of the teams they play and wins the tourney without much competition. They're again gonna be deep in the frontcourt and the white dude is gonna be throwing up threes again.

Would love to see Kansas lose in the first round...again.
