Dooley sucked, but most of us knew he was an extreme long shot to begin with, so it wasn't a surprise. Kiffin is a terrible head coach, underachieved in his first and only season with a heckuva lot of talent on the team, got UT sideways with the NCAA, got you laughed at and ridiculed all over the country, never had staying power with his antics. But for some reason, many here loved the guy.

1 - kiffin
2 - dooley

Since I've been watching the Vols. My ratings.

Majors, a 7 good coach and had some good teams, but lacked consistency. Had personal issues that cost him and a coordinator he should have fired. Best days behind him.

Fulmer, a 8 some great teams and NC, yet found ways to lose big games Offenses generally Lacked creativity, defense rocked. Usually found excellent coordinators. Not always.

Kiffin, a 2 creative mind and amazing recruiter, yet poison. Train wreck to all involved. Never hire such man, will destroy program if allowed. Basket case.

Dooley, a 3 good administrator, ran clean program, yet no killer instinct, worst defenses. Breaks always went against him. Would make good AD, should've never left La.

Jones, a 6? the man loves football and kids, excellent recruiter, generates excitement. Offensive scheme not fully executed yet, so looks sloppy. Horrible 'missin' defense.

Can't say the team improved over the year much. Let's see with Team 118! We're young, but hungry.

Worst coach: by a nose Kiffin. Has generally left in disgrace from every HC position. Will end up coaching the prison rec. team to league championship using former players.

2nd worst Dooley, born loser, would lose with the Globetrotters to Generals. Should coach Washington Generals, would be paid to lose. He could even wear outlandish pants.

The worst football coach ever, listing ONLY ONE, for any HC, OC,DC,or position absolutely, hands down, without a doubt, I will brook no argument, is Sunseri.

If he had had ANY, and I do mean ANY, competence as a Defensive Cordinator we possibly would still have Dooley as HC. Remember, Dooley's offense was THIRD MOST PRODUCTIVE in Volunteer history. I believe (apart from the personality issues) Dooley's real problem was NEVER being able to build a truly competent assistant coaching staff. Dooley, like many offense guys throughout football who get elevated to HC, depended almost totally on his DC for that side of the program.

Sunseri just could not in any way fill the position.

Oh, and No! I am not defending Dools. He was not competent as a HC. But Sunsucki was far far worse.

EDIT: Both are examples of The Peter Principle - Being elevated above the level of their competence.

John Adams, celebrity HC at the '12 O&W game. I was offended at the thought of him being a HC of UT, even if it was during spring practice.

Dooley because, on top of being a horrible coach, he was also a lawyer. Lawyers are lower than the bacteria that people add to their septic tanks.
