Who Tailgates With a TV?

I'm a nerd, what can I say.

Freak, do you think you could put the dropdown for smilies in the quick reply, or is that a pain? Vader was asking on PJ tonight why we don't have that here...
I could probably do that. Remind me this weekend. I'll add it to my to do list. :)

A standard TV uses quite a bit of power. I have a little 13" in the next room that is rated at 100 A. A lawnmower battery usually only provides 24 Ah. That is, 24 amps for 1 hour... This 13" TV would discharge the battery in about 15 min. and that is assuming your inverter is 100% efficient, which it won't be. You need a car battery these store MUCH more energy.

Thanks.

How safe is just hooking a converter to a battery and having it sit there in my trunk, on the table, on the ground, wherever we put it. Is there anything I should know about it before I just hook it up and go? I'm always afraid when I'm jump starting a car, the battery is gonna blow up or something. LOL

I just clicked on that Honda link.

The SMALLEST one is 800.00

I'll go to Charlie Peppers before I pay that much.

LOL

We actually ran one off of car battery last year (ran on an adapter for the cell phone power supply), so you should have no problem with that. Just make sure you are sober enough to turn everything off before you head to the game.

That being said, the generator is definitely safer. You may consider renting one from an equipment rental shop. I know that Home Depot in Lex rents them out by the day. That would be the cheapest alternative.

Sorry to get into to this so late but here is my set-up and it worked all day last Saturday. I have a deep cycle marine battery hooked up to a power inverter. I got my battery from Sears it was like 80 bucks. The inverter is 800 watts but we will never pull that much. Just make sure that you get enough to cover the surfe of turning your equipment on. Our 24 inch tv pulls 150 steady and like 300 to turn it on. Our Direct box pulls 25 and 50 to turn it on. You can get inverters at pep boys, advance auto, or sears. Those were the best and cheapest. I think they run 50-80 bucks. I actually have a trickle charger at home so I can reuse my battery. And I have a back up in case I need it. MAKE SURE YOU BUY A DEEP CYCYLE MARINE BATTERY AND NOT A STARTING BATTERY. You need a reserve time of 180 to make it all day. PM me and you can come by saturday and see the set-up. Just dont drink all my beer:)

I'll be tailgating with a little handheld tv in a transparent water-tight case.

Or, you can just drop by bigdaddy's setup and pop a squat.

Here's what we use on the ranch. If someone has a chopper we could lift it in:

What do you need?

12V DC to AC Power Inverter?

I don't think I want to run it off my car battery, so can I buy a lawn mower battery (smaller one than a car) and run a TV on it?

I need some help.

Go to Auto Zone or Advance and get what I call a "Hot Pack" It is a fully self contained very light weight and can be recharged. It has a place to plug the inverter in like a cigarette lighter. When fully charged it will last for 3 hours if you only running the TV. I have had mine for 2 years and it has never let me down.

Sweet. Know how much it was?

I bought mine 2 years ago and I think it was about $50 bucks. It still works and holds its charge and will be again today at 12:30...In Lake Ave.

I looked on both their sites and couldn't find it.

What is it exactly? Is it a battery charger or backup battery pack? Maybe if I go in and explain it to them, they will have something similar.

Tell them it's like a booster pack. It can also be used to boost a car or whatever. The name brand on mine is

Super Start Power Pack. They are made in different levels of power Mine is Industrial grade/

PS
It will have a socket for a DC 12v plug in also. Even had a light on it or mine does.

Good luck
