Who Wants Nebraska???

What would you expect a coach to say whose program stands to lose between $80-100 million if they do not play? Do you think the university could afford that $5 mil salary with that kind of loss?

If the B1G cancels would make sense for them to play against the Big 12

I cannot see the Big 12 (if they play) allowing Nebraska to come back and play with them unless its a permanent move and they shine Texas boots.

Which is more or less what would be happening because without its TV rights at the moment, Nebraska would have to go from making $57,000,000 in shared conference revenue to...well a zero might still be there but there would also be a lot less digits.

They might also be looking at having to agree to be an away team for 11 games also, because all the TV rights to their home games belong to the TV contracts made with the Big 10‘s television partners (as well as the lower tier ones whose broadcasting rights belong to the Big 10 network).

Nebraska is not going to get a better deal than they have now with BiG10. Its a much better conf than Big 12, money wise. Plus the get to play on the weaker division. Should be a 2 horse raise between them and Wisconsin every year, with Iowa thrown in every couple of years.

Still to this day, I do not blame Nebraska for leaving the Big 12. Texas was about to seize control of the conference because it was power hungry and greedy. The Longhorn Network was launching, putting all of the other Big 12 schools at a huge disadvantage, and Texas was considering all options for where it would play, including going independent or joining the PAC 12. Texas was the main catalyst for conference realignment 10 years ago and why the SEC picked up A&M and then eventually Missouri to follow to give us 14 schools. Nebraska did what, at the time, was best for its interests by bolting to the Big Ten.

Agree. They are certainly making more money but certainly not competing mainly because their primary recruiting base was Texas. They no longer play as many games down there or nearby so while families might make a 9 hour trip from Dallas to Lincoln, but most likely won't be traveling for as many road games such as the 15 hour trek to Madison, when they can see their boys play 4 hours away in Norman or Stillwater, or 7 hours away in Manhattan or Lawrence, KS. I personally would love for Nebraska to go back to the Big 12 to renew their rivalries with Oklahoma and Kansas State and to be relevant again.

I agree with you. I kind of feel bad for Nebraska. Their program reminds me of ours in a variety of ways and they were faced with a situation there several years ago where they felt like they had no choice but to leave the Big 12. It's been great for them from a financial perspective, so my sympathy is limited, but joining the Big Ten certainly has not helped them with recruiting and they've seemed like an odd fit/black sheep in that conference ever since they joined.

Nebraska was certainly a better fit in the Big 12. I’ll always blame Texas for ruining what was a solid conference. It’s watered down now. But I also thank them for assisting the SEC in getting A&M and that Texas market.

Just let Nebraska and Colorado (I know they've not said anything about playing) come back to the B12 for this season and pretend it's the 1990s again.

The season is already a mess anyway, might as well have some fun with it.

Nebraska let their ego overrun their brain. They’re not in the same revenue universe as Texas. Nobody cares about Johnny Rodgers & Thanksgiving Day 1971. They killed all their natural rivalries and Big10 doesn’t give a crap about them cause Neb has no where to go. Scott Frost should keep his mouth shut. This is way above his pay grade.

Texas (the school) sucks for sure but we never ran from them like aggy and nubs did.

One thing I’ll say for A&M is that they don’t need Texas. And they got into a more prestigious and more stable conference. The Big 12 was really close to dissolving. They do have a budding rivalry with LSU and one already with Arkansas. A&M has always been a sleeping giant. One of these days it’s gonna breakthrough.

I may be bias but I sided with A&M and the other schools that went to war with Texas a decade ago.
