Who Was Your First Favorite CFB Player?

Reggie White then Andy Kelly.

Ahh, yes...the Minister of Defense. VFL if ever one existed.

So, there's a story about him when he was in the NFL. I don't remember the opposing team, or the QB, but apparently Reggie was having his way in the backfield. After a particularly vicious sack, Reggie helps the QB to his feet and says "Jesus loves you, (name)." The QB allegedly replies "I know that, Reggie, but why do you hate me so much?"

If true, priceless. If not, still priceless. Reggie in a nutshell.

Go Vols.

Chuck Webb
Chuck Webb, if not for the injury, probably would have been a Heisman Trophy winner. He had power a shifty hips. He would have been an all time great if not for the knee injury. Major’s took a lot of heat for having him in the game when we were ahead 4 touchdowns, but I’m sure he wanted to be in there running the rock.

No one has mentioned Jamal Lewis. The guy had huge thighs as a freshman. Speed and powerful dude. Was in the same backfield with Travis Stevens and Travis Henry. Three guys that all could have started for any team in the country. The 97 and 98 team was just loaded with absolute studs. I could have won the NC as coach that year. Fulmer got one championship and should have had 3 at least. We are not talking about that tonight though.

Hard to name just one….but the earliest Vol Football memories I have are of those early 80s teams….Gault, Fuad, Reggie White, Bill Bates, Cockrell.

I remember Tony Robinson and liked him, but Kelly and Reggie Cobb was what got me really awe struck me as a kid.
i remember thinking he was the best quarterback anybodys ever had and would be the best we ever had. little did i know it would happen twice in just the next few years

Alan Cockrell...Had a white w/ orange stripes and numerals #6 football jersey. I would wear it w/ orange UT sweatpants & Adidas Top Ten Hi-Tops to my Jr.Pro basketball practices. Alan has spent many years in Major League Baseball. He was a gifted 2 sport athlete.

I had watched games and replays with older brothers for several years but Conredge was the first that I kinda latched on to.

I didn’t grow up in Tennessee. Daryl Talley was my first early favorite Mountaineer. The student section at WVU used to have a section called Talley’s Terrorists. Probably couldn’t call them that these days.
Lol. Must have gotten the idea from the steelers. Kinda like " franco's italian army"
