Who were Georgia's HC's before

I was talking to a UGA homer this morning about Richt. As long as he beats at least 2 of their 3 big rivals yearly (Auburn/Florida/GT) he'll be okay. Much like Fulmer was here. That being said, a lot of UGA fans aren't happy with Richt, in spite of them playing in the SECCG today.

I remember Spurrier calling Goff "Ray Goof" I dont remember anyone calling him Ray Gump though........Whenever we mention a coach calling another coach or school a witty name its always Spurrier god I hate that man as an oppononent but hes a hell of an interview...... Free Shoes Univeristy blast on Bowden was great, so was the cant spell Citrus without UT blast he laid on us....another Spurrier legend comment was I know why Peyton is coming back for his senior year he wants to be a 3 time Citrus Bowl MVP......Spurrier youre an a**hole but I cant deny you are entertaining, Go Vols.[/QU You've gotta give it to Spurrier that dude is hilarious. During an interview a few years ago he was asked why he's not as jovial as he was at Fla and he said "were not beating teams yet like we did at Florida". Granted though, he can give interviews!

Richt should be fired tonight He has not won anything since winning the SEC championship in 2005.
Lost 2 years in a row in the SEC championship now.

If Richt got a call from the AD telling him he was fired, there would be a dozen job offers for him before he hung up the phone. Seriously no, I don't think he'll ever win it all at Georgia, but that doesn't mean he couldn't win it all somewhere else. I think like Fulmer, he's gotten complacent. And considering how bad the east has been the past few years, it's not that impressive Georgia winning the division. I bet UT, UF, and USCe are all much better next year.

Remember, Fulmer got fired the year after his last SECCG appearence.

Thank you that was my point.

I was just tired of everyone bashing Fulmer then saying Richt is a good coach.

If Georgia did fire Richt they would be making the same mistake we made in 2008.

And as far as the coaching search goes if we get down past the home run hires we need to think about bringing Fulmer back.

He was coaching when the Forrest Gump movie came out. His last year, the name Ray Gump was very trendy for a short time. He was terrible, Donnin was an ok coach. Goff was a former UGA quarterback...bad bad bad hire. I remember going to I think it was the 1999 UT-UGA game. They were expecting to win that one...stomped mid-feild on our power T pre-game. We beat them for like the 8th straight time or something. Their fans were mad mad mad after the game.

Ritch has been there for 12 years and the Georgia Fans B*tch about him every year. I live and work in Georgia and their fans are just as crazy as our Tennessee Fans.

They do have a ton of high school talent to not have a single crystal football

Ray Goff...I think he replaced Vince Dooley. He sucked bad...they called him ray gump.

Then then hired the Jim donnan guy. He wasn't much better.

Richt came along around 2001ish
Jim Donnan was an upgrade from Ray Goff. Actually, Donnan wasn't that bad but didn't beat Florida and Tennessee enough.

Struggled? Donnan and Goff came after Dooley and prior to Richt...neither really "struggled". Not sure who are what you're talking about.

They may have not struggled at our version of Dooley's level, but they both were definitely below UGA's expectations.

To his credit, I have heard Donnan speak several times since he was fired. He speaks highly of Fulmer and says he has great respect for him as a coach and as a person.

Of course, Donnan is also still taking credit for all of Richt's success at Georgia too.

BTW: no matter how good the deal sounds, don't invest any money in anything Donnan is involved in.:jpshakehead:

Well Richt's first four years were all Donnan recruits and fish on the line because he actually had know clue about recruiting in the SEC....That's why they hired Garner to keep those kids Donnan had already had on the line and it took him about two to realize that this Fla St style of recruiting was not gonna work....he should have brought Goff in..that guy could recruit!

I don't remember it that way. Donnan was there from 1996 to 2000. Not a lot of teams not named Florida were favored over UT during the time. In fact, in 2000 when UGA finally beat UT, the UGA fans trampled the Hedges and nearly tore their stadium down.

I really don't mean to spend so much energy defending Donnan. Really don't like him.

Donnan was fired because he couldn't beat Tennessee (1-4), Florida (1-4), Auburn(2-3) or Georgia Tech (2-3) enough. He was 40-19 but that's still 4-5 losses a year. His players also had alot of off the field problems. He was a very good coach at Marshall and was inducted into the college HOF in 2009. Donnan will likely be headed to prison soon for an $80 million dollar ponzi scheme. His list of victims included Barry Switzer, Tommy Tuberville and several former players including Kendrell Bell who lost over $2 million.
