i have not seen anything from anyone who has played that tells me that they do their job consistently well. that's just my opinion.

respectfully, i make my assessments of the guys who did not play based on the guys who did play. one assumes that the 1st string is better than the 2nd string is better than the 3rd string, etc.

so, that means that the guys who did not get any playing time were worse than the guys who did. for me, that tells me that they can be written off as not any good.

to use my own team as an example, if you are a wr at florda and you could not get any playing time in 2012, you can not possibly be any good. if you were any good, at all, you would have played. true freshman or not. although, i usually do hold out hope for true freshman in such a situation.

now, maggit, from what i saw as a freshman can play at a quality level. he was hurt all last season, so, who knows what his future holds.

AJ would not see the field at a number of sec schools. that's my opinion. he is a very good tackler when he gets to the play. but, he does not get to the play way, way too often.

I would agree more with your post except for one thing.

You are comparing our young men to young men who were actully coached last year. There is a big disadvantage in that assesment and not very fair to the young men being evaluated.

I'm sure he bulked up to play in the 3-4. LBs have to be big in that scheme. AJ is not really built to play the 3-4.

AJ actually was a really big kid right off the bat - he was about 230 as a HS senior so he was perfect for the 3-4 as he has that big body - his issue is and always has been speed at this level - typically 3-4 MLB's don't have to be as fast, they need to be bigger as they take on more OL blocks

when moving to the 4-3 he would be less likely to be taking on blocks of interior lineman and have to play more in space

since he struggles with his speed this imo is a major concern

so he is actually built way better for a 3-4 - although like another poster suggested he isnt great at shedding blocks yet - i think he would be much more likely to be able to improve this than to all of a sudden get fast - that is a more natural than learned skill

Objectively--I don't know if Bynum, Harris, or Lewis are any good...but I hope.

very seriously doubt Lewis is a LB this spring - he will be a DE

i have hope for harris but i do think that kids from HS will likely be where we find the LB speed we need

we got killed on the edge all year - there are many reasons for that but one of the main ones is LB speed

99 is actually somewhat accurate in his view. Indicating that there is no talent may be a bit of a strectch....as opposed to what I believe...not very good coaching. He is however correct in much of his assesment.

Our LB's were not great in pass coverage...at all. Neither were our DB's for that matter. They were out of position a lot. Got beat on the outside more often than not (possibly due to being out of position). Seemed confused as to what they were supposed to be doing (and got out of position).

When they knew where they were supposed to be, and what they were supposed to do, they weren't half bad.

Coaching!

You cannot coach speed but as fast as you are if you not in the right spot it does not help.Hope our new dc can teach them to be at the right spot right time.

You.......you basically said "Tennessee fans blame Sal, but it was obviously there players that sucked"

I didn't basically say that, because

#1 I know the difference between "their" and "there"
and
#2 It is possible for a team to have both mediocre players AND bad coaching. They are not mutually exclusive.

I don't even know the kid...but if he is agile at all I would like for him to have a chance at MLB...A 6-4, 240lb MLB with a mean attitude would be a welcome addition....:salute:
