Who will step up and dethrone Alabama this year?

florida will be pretty good this year IMO, but LSU or A&M is my guess. Georgia is overrated in my book and south carolina will never win a sec champ.

They play a&m at college station so they may lose there. LSU is always tough and of course they play auburn at auburn. That game can usually go either way most years, regardless of each team's record

A&M is a revenge game and the garden gnome is pretty good in those. LSU will have the players to match up. UF or UGA will as well if they meet in Atlanta. I would like for this to be Butch's signature win but even my hope has it's limitations.

My money is on Bama - the only ones keeping them from doing it all again is them. They have the talent and the coaching to get it done.

I doubt after last year that Johnny Football torches them again.

I think A &M will take a step back this year as will LSU (loss of too many starters). I think LSU, A&M and Ole Miss will all be around 8-4 to 9-3 this year. I think Bama will have an esier path to Atlanta this year. I think their best competition will come from the SECCG...and that may not be that great either.

Butch Jones. Within 5 years Saban will bolt when Alabama slides ever so slighty to mediocre. He will go to the NFL IMO.

LSU is down trending. Last year wasn't a hiccup, if was a sign of things to come. They will go 8-4 this season and be in danger of getting worse.

Bama had some tough games late last year that could have gone either way. And I think Bama lost some key leaders this year to the draft (e.g., Barret Jones). My hope is that they were part of the glue that was holding the ship together.

If they are to take a step backwards, I think it will be because of intangibles (like a lack of leadership, etc.). Saban once blamed the 2010 season on a lack of leadership, afterall.

That said, I think LSU, A&M, or Georgia in the SECCG takes them down.

Good point. Regardless of the quality of overall talent or coaching, the intangibles are either present or they are not. We have sorely lacked leadership the caliber of which Al Wilson provided in '98. Human nature being what it is, it simply isn't possible to maintain the same psychological peak indefinitely. After gorging on a kill, the lion, literal or proverbial, simply isn't as hungry.

Sorry but no one will dethrone Bama. Not yet anyways. After this past year they will only be better. It's going to take something along the lines of them not being able to find a competent QB after McCarron is gone or them getting a new DC who tries to bring in a new system. Or Saban leaving. As it stands now they will be the best team in the country again IMO.
