I picked harvick at first stert would be cool! Owner driver winner could shake up NASCAR ,Lotta decent drivers might say I'll drive my own!

He fell into the perfect situation with Haas. It would be harder in most cases for a guy to start his own team. He has Hendrick backing too.

I won't count Johnson out until he's 48 points out at Homestead. That said, it will take a miracle for him to come back.

Waiot until after 'Dega as to whether to count out Jimmie. If he has a top 3 and beats out Kevin, Carl and Matt by 4 positons or more he has a shot. However, he must average at least runner up in two and win 3 races. Jimmie can do it-he's do it before during the last 5 races. However, he's never been more than 10 back to do it.
My pick is either Carl or Kevin.

I'm pulling for Kenseth now that Johnson and Gordon are done. Matt becoming a two time champion would be pretty cool to see.

3 man race now. Johnson is done

How farfetched is this scenario? There is at least one big wreck at Talladega, very probable. Included in the wreck are the three point leaders, certainly possible. The wreck is in the first half of the race and the points for the top three are 7, 8, & 9 just for arguments sake. Kyle Busch gets 30 points and Jimmy Johnson wins getting 48 points.
The standings after Talladega are:

1. Jimmie Johnson - 2216
2. Kyle Busch - 2215
3. Carl Edwards - 2210
4. Harvick - 2206
5. Kenseth - 2205

For convenience I have ignored the other drivers within a race worth of points of Edwards.

Talladega could and very well may throw the whole Chase into a real spin cycle.

That is true. I really hate that a Talladega race is in the chase. I guess it it good from an excitement standpoint, but I think it is unfair.

Since there are three plate races in the regular season, it makes sense to have one in the Chase. I would like to see a road course and another short track race instead of five 1-1/2 mile tracks. Three are plenty.

My pick of Harvick is looking iffy, but he still has a mathematical chance, along with Kenseth. Harvick will need win or place 2nd in the last two races along with both Edwards and Stewart finishing an average of around 15-16 positions behind him depending on laps led bonuses. While not likely, a wreck involving both could put Harvick right in the middle of it as well as bringing Kenseth back into the picture.

It pretty much boils down to Smoke or Cusin' Carl. Stewart has the edge in been there, done that with two previous championships, Carl has a slim lead. Going into Phoenix they are even in wins there at one each, Stewart has many more laps on the track, but now the track is different. That's a push. At Homestead they are even again at two wins each, another push.

If momentum is the deciding factor, Stewart wraps it up, Carl is the most consistent, but he needs a win to hold off Tony in my opinion. At first glance resources available would appear to favor Edwards with Roush/Fenway's impressive operation behind him, however, he has to share them with Kenseth. While Tony's teammate Newman is in the Chase, he isn't going to get a whole lot of attention now that he is out of contention. Mainly the question is how much help is coming from Rick Hendrick, if any.

Who to pick? Toss a coin? Go with head? Go with heart? I'll go with Smoke.

If Jimmie, jeff, or dale were still in it I would say not so much. With them out I say Hendrick will help push tony with any support he needs.
